HBO’sThe Last of Uswas released last year to more than stellar reviews and now,Fallouthas risen to the challenge by also dipping into the game adaptation pool to showcase, yet again, how it’s done when it comes to crossing over the video game/TV show finishing line. I think it would be fair to say that the movie and TV adaptations bar when it comes to our beloved games has always been pretty low with the likes of Assassin’s Creed and Mortal Kombat muddying the waters but maybe, just maybe, the long painful curse has now been broken.

What hasn’t gone anywhere yet is the continuation of console wars and, from that same branch, TV show wars have taken up a nest where debates ring into the night about how one is better than the other. This was bound to happen with Fallout being pitted against The Last of Us, and now both fandoms are airing their annoyance at this never-ending trend.

It’s Perfectly Fine To Enjoy Fallout AND The Last Of Us

Over the years, the console war between Sony and Microsoft turned gamers essentially into unpaid cheerleaders. One side believes they are the best, while the other complete losers for merely thinking about it. Although this mindset has taken a slight turn for the better in recent times, in comes the TV wars nonsense - just when you thought most people could just be quiet and appreciate the medium.

In a Twitter/X post retweeted byPaul Tassifrom Forbes, who wrote about their annoyance that putting Fallout and The Last of Us against each other is “one of the stupider console war things I’ve seen in a while” in response to the original post showcasing their opinion about Fallout “winning” over The Last of Us due to its viewership, has sparked a lot of debate from both fandoms. The original post by X user@TheButcher48stated that due to viewer numbers, Fallout was more successful than The Last of Us - it’s a strange read, to say the least.

Under Tassi’s retweet, fans of both shows have been rolling their eyes hard and are exhausted at this constant need to either enjoy one or the other, not both, because god forbid you ever do that - there has to be hate or the world blows up, or something. “Can’t we just like both shows?“brainiaccries out. “This is getting utterly ridiculous! I am glad I was able to enjoy both!!” statesFuredo Krueger, asPapá Gamer, very simply and correctly, puts “I think both are great.”

Echoing all of these statements, userGuy Incognitosays “God, can we stop this console war BS already? It’s gotten so bad that people are arguing about TV show numbers? Both shows are good, both respect the games they are based on.” Say it louder for the people in the back, Guy!

Fallout

“Also, those aren’t individual viewers that you combine with each episode… Like…that’s not how it works. Most viewers watch every episode, so he’s literally counting the same viewers multiple times.” saidBoneShackles.

Let’s hope when season two of Fallout and The Last of Us rolls around, people can use this time to get a firm grip on reality when it comes to allowing fans to enjoy shows without the need to pit one against the other. From a personal standing, I loved HBO’s The Last of Us, and even though Fallout wasn’t entirely my cup of tea, it was still great to see two huge games being treated with the respect they both deserve when it comes to game adaption and for that, we should be grateful.
