For decades, theFalloutfranchise has been the pinnacle of post-apocalyptic exploration and storytelling. WithFallout 5on the horizon, where will Todd Howard and Bethesda Game Studios take us next? This idea might be one worth exploring. If there’s one part of the world theFalloutuniverse that’s less seen, it’s the underwater world.

Despite being nearly indestructible, power armor inFallout 4only allows you to stay underwater for a limited amount of time. It’s time forFallout 5to introduce a power armor specifically designed for underwater use, opening a gateway to an unexplored frontier.
Fallout 5Could Really Take Us To The Deep End
Underwater environments inFalloutgames are notoriously underwhelming. While they offer occasional loot and some curious mystery, they often don’t have any deep mechanics and aspects past the basics. InFallout 4, players discovered the sad reality of underwater exploration. While power armor extends your underwater endurance, you can’t permanently explore the waters.
What’s worse, the underwater environment inFallout 4feels barren, offering little incentive to explore. Most players find themselves exploring the waters only to find junk and other lackluster loot. Without a compelling reason to dive in, many avoid these areas entirely, and those who do think its a waste of time.

Forget Elder Scrolls 6, Bethesda’s Upcoming Announcement Has us Convinced Todd Howard is Secretly Working on Fallout 5
Fallout 5could change the game with a new underwater power armor built for exploration. Imagine a suit with thrusters for smooth movement, sonar systems to detect hidden objects, and strong lights capable of navigating dark, murky waters. It’d be new for the franchisebut there’s nothing but potential.
Did you know Fallout 4 almost had an underwater Vault storyline? “20 leagues under the sea” questline… in vault 120. How cool would this have been?pic.twitter.com/JRxFyUmoAi

Not only would this expand the scope of exploration, but it would also add more to theFalloutlore. It’s difficult and hasn’t been done a lot, let a lone well (think of the Water Temple in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time). But it also has the potential to be something great, like how well Subnautica did it for example.
Bethesda Probably Has a Long List of Ideas and This Should be One of Them
Bethesda has always been good with environmental storytelling, andFallout’sAmericana roots lend themselves perfectly to this vision. Imagine uncovering a submerged amusement park or a nuclear submarine full of pre-war secrets.Fallout 5hasa lot of potential in a lot of ways.
Todd Howard confirms Fallout 5 to be in production after the release of Elder Scrolls 6.Also, once Starfield is released next year, TES6 will be in pre-production. Bethesda takes nearly 10 years for these big projects. We will likely see Fallout 5 in 2042. I’ll be 55.pic.twitter.com/amhifi6poR

There could be quests where you salvage technology from sunken submarines or uncover the secrets of pre-war marine experiments. By making the underwater world a central part of the story, Bethesda could incorporate it into the lore of the franchise.
The 4 Golden Points a Game Dev Wants Every Survival Game to Follow is What Todd Howard Needs in Fallout 5
TheFalloutmodding community has been a big part of the franchise’s evolution, often filling gaps left by the developers. There are even mods that improve the underwater ofFallout 4. Bethesda should take note of this and maybe incorporate it intoFallout 5.
Collaborating with the community or drawing inspiration from popular mods could help ensure that whatever underwater gameplay there is meets players’ expectations. Bethesda can take us somewhere the franchise has never gone inFallout 5.
