The possibilities are endless in this genre where Naughty Dog can toy around with the theme of the undead. The developers could expand the reach of the Cordyceps to other living creatures like animals which could be an interesting addition for the inevitable sequel.

Naughty Doghas brought the stuff of nightmares into reality and directorNeil Druckmann hinted at the possibility ofThe Last of Us Part 3after celebrating the fourth anniversary of the controversial sequel. The gaming community is disgusted by the character design of infected variants like the Clickers and Bloaters, and both of these were based on human physiology and some begin to wonder what it would look like if it affected other living creatures.

The sequel already introduced the players to dogs trained to kill both infected and non-infected enemies by the WLF, perhaps the next chapter will introduce a deadlier variant with heightened strength that can tear the playable character to pieces. The addition of dogs in the sequel raised some eyebrows within the gaming community. Naughty Dog pushed as far as the team could go and not everyone was comfortable having to fight and take down an innocent animal trained to do.

Adding more enemies will give the players a new challenge. The Seraphites in the sequel were a new enemy faction with different but much deadlier methods and relied on more primitive weapons like bows and arrows which forced the players to play differently, perhaps infected animals would up the stakes.
It will only be a matter of time before the gaming community will be clamoring for something new and infected animals could do the trick. Perhaps a new enemy type will expand the lore and give the players a better understanding of the virus.
