Elden Ring Nightreignmight let fans return to the Lands Between, but one familiar face from the original game won’t be making an appearance.

In a huge departure from the original Elden Ring, Nightreign has a focus on multiplayer, with groups of three people teaming up to take on foes in ever-shiftingprocedurally generated maps.

In order tomove across the overworld, players will be flying across the map with the aid of Spectral Hawks. These birds can be called at massive spectral trees, and they will allow Nightfarers to soar using air currents, covering huge distances in a short period of time.

Unfortunately, the presence of the Spectral Hawks means that a fan-favorite character won’t be returning. As reported byDot Esports, the developers of Elden Ring Nightreign have confirmed that Torrent isn’t in the game.

Torrent Has Been Sent To The Glue Factory In Elden Ring Nightreign

Elden Ring Nightreign Director Junya Ishizaki stated that Torrent has been replaced due to how travel acrossthe Lands Betweenas a whole is different, and the varying sizes of the biomes.

“We hope that players look forward to all sorts of new traversal techniques in Nightreign,” Ishizaki said,“Traversal of the map and exploring the map has changed—and game speed and game feel.”

“We hope players enjoy using the sprinting and mounting system and Spectral Hawks to get around the map,“ Ishizaki continued, “In these ways, we have tried to change around the traversal, and in many ways, it does feel speedier than riding Torrent when you go back to playing Elden Ring.”

It’s ashame that Torrent or similar horses didn’t make the cut, as they would have helped Nightreign feel a lot more like Elden Ring, considering how much time players spent riding around the Lands Between. The change to birds makes sense, but it would have been so much fun to saddle up with friends and go exploring on horseback when Elden Ring Nightreignlaunches on May 30.
