The dark-action RPG has conquered the gaming industry in a span of nine months. The title has not only exceeded the previous FromSoftware games in terms of profits, but it also topped the sale numbers of every other title that made its debut in 2022. It now stands as the top-selling game of the year, boosting the profits of Kadokawa by an enormous 1,100 percent.

Based on earnings reports, the Japanese conglomerate has operated at a profit of 7.592 billion yen. The reports showing the company’s profits last year revealed that the publishing giant generated 623 million yen. As stated in the report, the worldwide blockbuster has had an astronomic effect on the company’s income when compared to last year, resulting in a 10-times increase in sales. Even though it hasn’t been a full year since Elden Ring’s takeoff, FromSoftware’s magnum opus continues to thrive on every platform, and it preserved its position on top of Steam’s most-selling titles for several months after its debut as well. Although it was troubled by performance issues on PC, the action-RPG has continued to amass millions of players around the world.

This undisputed success of the title has attracted multiple investors to FromSoftware for its expertise in delivering successful titles. Earlier this year, Bandai Namco announced that it forecasted an increase of 34 percent in revenue. This also encouraged giants likeSony and Tencent to increase their stakesin the developer. The latter now owns 16.25 percent of the company, with rumors pointing towards an acquisition in the future.

There are other rumors revolving arounda possible move from Sony to acquire FromSoftwareas well, yet that seems unlikely, as Kadokawa remains the major stakeholder of FromSoftware with nearly 70 percent of the shares. It is also safe to say that the Japanese conglomerate will not turn its back on its golden goose, as it has yielded an unfathomable amount of profit in a span of just nine months.

Kadokawa announced that its subsidiary “will continue to invest in the development of more powerful game IP for itself,” pointing out the fact thatElden Ring will expand as an IP, which explains Miyazaki’s announcement, saying that the next installment is near completion. As Elden Ring keeps rising, FromSoftware hasstarted hiring for multiple projectsto build on its massive success as well.
