Jonathan Blow, a well-known indie game developer, thinks thatElden Ringdoes not have a great design language and that it is just a large-scale ambitious project with a huge map and a bunch of bosses with different attack patterns.

His criticism of the game does not mean to take away from the scope and success; he is just expressing his personal opinion on the matter. However, it is a pretty bold statement against one of the best games to have ever been released.
Jonathan Blow targets Elden Ring’s design language
There is no doubt about the large scope and scale ofElden Ring.It has a huge map that offers each player a unique experience based on the choices they make along the way. It offers a highly customizable experience by letting players carve out their destiny, as it just drops you in The Lands Between, and it is all up to you from there on.
Elden Ringdoes not follow a linear story path since it gives players full control over the narrative. There are multiple endings in the game based on the choices you make and the enemies you kill.

FromSoft Made $330,000,000 From Elden Ring Players Who Didn’t Even Make it to the First Achievement in Hidetaka Miyazaki’s Game
However, Blow seems to have a problem with this. It all started with a tweet from Casey Muratori, a programmer and blogger, who claimed that most of the triple AAA games of today’s time lack design quality.
It’s very difficult to play most “AAA” games now. At least for me, the design quality has degraded to the point where the high production values can’t compensate, and I just end up wishing I hadn’t wasted my time.

Tyler Glaiel then joined the conversation and praised FromSoftware and Nintendo for keeping the design quality in AAA games intact.
pretty much, though Fromsoft and Nintendo both seem to still understand design tho

Elden Ring doesn’t really have design per se. It’s a huge map full of a bunch of bosses with different attack patterns, and the sheer scale alone is interesting and impressive — it is way bigger than anything previous both in physical size and amount of stuff.
However, Blow later joined the conversation and expressed his disdain forElden Ring’sdesign. He expressed his opinion about the way he felt while playing the game.

Fans do not seem to agree with Blow’s opinion
Unsurprisingly, fans expressed their disagreement with Blow’s opinion regardingElden Ring’sdesign quality; most of the players feel that Miyazaki did an amazing job tying the entire world of the game together. Having said that,it is fair to mention that the game is not perfect.
The design of the world is actually groundbreaking and pretty embarrassing you don’t see it. The map is very much linear, while still feeling like an open world. There are many “random” events but the game does a great job of guiding you toward them without you being aware.
Players enjoy how theElden Ringis designed. They do not seem to have a problem with the vastness or nonlinearity of the game since these are the things that make the experience of playing the game unique and fun. Although there have been no plans for a sequel yet, there arequite a few possibilities for Miyazaki to look into for the next game.
Elden Ring Nightreign Will Be 100x More Difficult if Hidetaka Miyazaki Let Fromsoft Include One DS3 Enemy That Literally Adapts Mid-Boss Fight
Blow might be seeing the game from a developer’s point of view and might feel that there are a lot of things missing from it, which is fair since we all have a right to have our own opinions.
