Hunt: Showdown 1896has recently been updated with a patch, moving to version 2.4.0.2. The update’sofficial steam postreveals its contents: a simple pair of bug fixes and nothing else. Except there is something else! It revokes Steam Deck compatibility.
ThePvPvEgame doesn’t work on Steam Deck anymore. Instead of getting actual gameplay, you’ll see a popup complaining about the lack of anticheat when you try and boot the game. Which, while potentially interesting to computer nerds out there, isn’t quite as cool as Videogames(tm).
As you’d expect, players aren’t too happy about this. Athread on the steam forumsshows more than a few users with the same problem, and all hoping the issue will be fixed shortly.

Easy Anti-Cheat, which Hunt: Showdown uses, can in fact work on the Steam Deck. Plenty of games use it. The most likely culprit for EAC breaking here is the new update which, despite its size, was the last person to see EAC alive. Them’s the breaks, pal.
