Baldur’s Gate 3is one of my favorite games of all time, but as the months continue to pass by and the newness of the experience continues to dull into a golden shade of nostalgia, I know that the time is nigh to start looking ahead to that next big RPG. That RPG might well beDragon’s Dogma2.

In a recent 15-minute stream that revealed a August 19, 2025 release date, Capcom also shared some interesting new details about the upcoming game.

A New Chapter

As you embark on your journey in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you’ll unravel a story set in a realm parallel to the original Dragon’s Dogma. As an Arisen, you find yourself entangled in the conflicting beliefs and plots of two rival nations. In Vermund, the human kingdom, a power struggle for the throne unfolds, manipulated by a false Arisen installed by the queen regent Disa. Meanwhile, in Battahl, humanoid beasts regard Pawns as harbingers of misfortune. Despite their differences, both nations unite in perceiving dragons as a grave threat to their survival.

I Still Hope That BioWare Will One Day Return To Anthem’s Unique World

Anthem was a great concept poorly executed, and it deserves a second chance.

Already the story is shaping up to have a more political narrative to it. While there was quite a bit of intrigue with Dark Arisen, the accompanying story was one-sided. Characters from other kingdoms, such as Mercedes Marten and Julien, hinted at greater conflicts in the neighboring kingdoms, but beyond info dumps within their in-game dialogue, you never get to see the conflicts first-hand. It would have been interesting to explore these conflicts more in-depth, as it could have added more drama and suspense to the game. It could also have provided additional opportunities for you to explore the game’s world. The trailer hints at a greater conflict between Vermund and Battahl, which is the perfect chance to explore such narratives.

BioWare Anthem open world environment and characters

Director Hideaki Itsuno and producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi revealed exciting features in the sequel. Among them is the introduction of the Talos, a colossal brass warrior emerging from the sea, expanding the game’s bestiary. Taking down Talos, as the video presents, will be quite the feat, not only requiring interactions with the newly destructive environments, but smart strategising with your team of pawns to defeat it.

It seems that the developers are doubling down on the Shadow of the Colossus-like fights that the first game only flirted with. The flexibility of how you may take a monster like the Talos down was also on full display. Melee fighters will probably leap onto it from the cliff’s edge, while a more ranged fighter may consider riding a bird towards it and engaging the monstrosity from afar with spells or arrows.

Why Did Capcom Leave Co-Op Multiplayer Out Of Dragon’s Dogma 2?

I’m excited for the upcoming Dragon’s Dogma 2, but no coop is a missed opportunity.

Dogmatic Diversity

One of my gripes with Dragon’s Dogma Dark Arisen was how playing support felt like a boring and difficult play style. If you wanted to be a healer, you had to stay a basic mage, which meant you were stuck with basic spells. On top of this, you also had the problem of your Pawns not attacking unlessyouwere attacking. There were times in which I was trying to keep my sword-and-shield Pawn on the enemy, in order to give me the chance to support from afar, only to have him walk up to me a moment later. Sure, there’s the command button to have him charge forward, but he always seemed to disengage after a certain time. It seems Dragon’s Dogma 2 will address this.

Capcom unveiled a new character class, the Trickster, Masters of Illusion, Tricksters use a censer in battle to sow confusion among enemies, pitting them against each other. This vocation manipulates battles from the sidelines rather than engaging directly, and joins the previously confirmed vocations in Dragon’s Dogma 2: Fighter, Archer, Thief, Mage, Magick Archer, and Mystic Spearhand.

Trickster looks to address the issue of having to play a more direct role in the party. While the Trickster’s Pawns fought the enemies around the group, the Trickster weaved in and out of combat, creating beautiful illusions that screwed with the enemy’s minds. It is definitely an intriguing role, though I’ll prefer to go with something a little more similar to a healer role. The updated Magick Archer may just be what I want, as it’s described as being adept at attacking and healing. I’m looking forward to giving it a pop.

No More Janky Faces

One of the biggest criticisms against the first game was the janky-looking characters. It was difficult to create a good-looking character in Dark Arisen. There were always some cutscenes in which their faces looked a bit… uncanny, shall we say.

As part of the updated character creator, Capcom made the Arisen as well as the Pawn more customizable. Photogrammetry technology enhances the photorealism of your player-created avatars in Dragon’s Dogma 2. All of your character’s facial features, expressions, and movements are captured accurately. Using the new character creator, you’re able to also adjust your character’s proportions, giving them a more realistic (or outright whack) appearance.

The wait for Dragon’s Dogma 2 is going to be brutal. Meanwhile, I’ll continue to keep an eye out for any piece of information Capcom drops until its March release.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Needs An Improved Romance System

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is improving every aspect of the original game. Hopefully the romance system is better as well.
