With striking visuals and a fresh story, Dragon Ball DAIMAhas become a highlight for the fans of Akira Toriyama’s celebrated series. They’re elated to experience the original, nostalgic charm of the series in a completely new form.DAIMAhas evident differences from the many series that preceded it. WhileGTandSuperenjoy a dedicated fanbase and massive popularity, both series had flaws that couldn’t be ignored.

In comparison,Dragon Ball DAIMAhas been somewhat flawless so far. Moreover, it performs better than its predecessors in some aspects. As the story progresses,DAIMAmight end up fixing some problems withSuper. What are these problems and how canDAIMAaddress them? Let’s find out.
Dragon Ball DAIMAcould fixSuper’s complicated timeline
First published in 2015,Dragon Ball Superwas the canonical sequel toDragon Ball Z. At the end of Z, there was a time skip of ten years. In the epilogue, we see Gohan’s family and Pan all grown up. However, this time skip was set ten years after the end of Buu Saga. Instead of continuing from that point,Dragon Ball Superstarted nearly 4 years after the ending of Buu Saga.
Even though we had seen a glimpse of what the future looks like at the end ofZ,Supernever made great use of that information. Many power-ups were introduced inSuperwhich didn’t align with howZended. StartingSuperbeforeZended canonically was an intriguing decision that wasn’t executed well.

Dragon Ball Super’s Backlash May Have Forced Toei Animation to Give DAIMA the One Piece Treatment
From the events ofDAIMAso far, it’s safe to assume that it begins a year or so after the Buu Saga, and this leaves a difference of 3 years betweenDAIMAandSuper. The new anime has been exploring the Demon Realm quite well ever since the beginning. As it progresses, it could bridge the awkward gap betweenZand the sequel. The inconsistencies inSuper can be fixed, but at this point, even fans have grown accustomed toSuper’s plot progression.
Although it’s true that with a few tweaks,DAIMAcould enrichSuperas an experience by laying some groundwork forSuper’s potential return. While we haven’t seen any signs thatDAIMAmight do that, every new episode adds to the interesting lore of Goku’s new adventure.

Dragon Ball DAIMAhas been excellent so far
The most praiseworthy aspect ofDAIMAis undeniably its spectacular animation, although the storytelling is not far behind. It brings back the key essence ofAkira Toriyama‘s storytelling where Goku embarks on thrilling adventures. Every turn is full of excitement, laughter, and thrill. In thelatest episode, Goku’s team finally reunited with Vegeta and the others.
The upcoming episodes will be full of exciting fights and seeing Goku and Vegeta fight together will add to the fun. Moreover,Bulma’s integral presencethroughout is reminiscent of the original series. WhileDragon Ball DAIMAfixing Super’s inconsistencies would be a great outcome, we can’t complain if it doesn’t, when every episode has so much to offer.

Dragon Ball DAIMAis available to stream on Crunchyroll.
