Gen V’s return for Season 2 will not feature one of the leading characters. Chance Perdomo passed away prior to the second season of the show’s production. Subsequently, the writers disclosed that they would not be recasting the role and would instead find a way to bring the late actor’s legacy to life through the character. Having finally decided how to handle the unfortunate turn of events, the season is currently in production.

The lead character, Andre, will not appear in Season 2 of Gen V because Chance Perdomo passed away before the show’s premiere.

In an act of genuine tribute, showrunner Eric Kripke (also the man behindThe Boys) revealed his tender plan to honor the British-American actor, mirroring the respectful approach MCU took for Chadwick Boseman.

With the community of fans & creators still mourning, Kripke is hoping to weave the journey of healing intoGen V’s upcoming season. Perdomo, who brought the character Andre to life with bewitching appeal, tragically passed away in March, leaving a palpable void in the heart of the show.

Following Perdomo’s death, the show’s creatorsdeclared thatthey would be“taking the time and space to recraft”the second season rather than recasting his character, Andre Anderson. Since then,Gen Vhas resumed filming, and co-executive producer Eric Kripke has recently providedTV Linewith an update on the show’s handling of Perdomo’s demise:

First, it’s just so unbelievably tragic, and my heart goes out to his family. We’re not trying to replace him because we can’t. We’re playing the character’s death on the show. So it’s very heavy and it’s really emotionally difficult for the cast. And we’re just trying to honor Chance as best we can.

By depicting Chance Perdomo’s death in an emotionally taxing plot of Gen V season 2, the show will pay tribute to his memory.

Kripke revealed that the show will address Andre’s death within the storyline, allowing the other characters to mourn his loss in a heartfelt and authentic way. However, hegave very little away about the season or the circumstances surrounding Andre’s passing. But Kripke added:

It is really intense. It’s fun to sort of find your legs in the second season of a show and really start digging into the story and the characters.

This recent decision is a reflection of Marvel’s past decision to honor Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther role.

Fans are divided over this decision; some see it as a fitting homage to the late actor and his performance, while a majority of them worry it will diminish the character’s legacy.

Following the untimely death of Boseman (July 28, 2025), Marvel Studios pursued asimilar road.Nevertheless, they chose to incorporate T’Challa’s passing into theBlack Panther: Wakanda Foreverstory rather than hiring a new actor. In an interview withEmpire, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige explained why the character of T’Challa was not recast.

Well, the industry’s navigation of such losses is complex, as evidenced by Marvel Studios’ handling of Boseman’s passing, which Kripke acknowledged as a touchstone for the path ahead. However, fans have differing opinions on the matter, with some urging the makers to avoid making the“same mistake as Wakanda Forever”.

Let’s have a look at a few comments:

Just mourn him for like one episode or so, then move on with the plot, don’t make the same mistake again like Wakanda Forever….

Rip but I don’t get how k*lling someone character & making the viewer relieve the trauma but in the show as well helps recasting helps honor that person & character that played them but since this is a relatively newer character I guess I can see why they went this route.

Imagine going to your job and pouring your heart into a special project. Then you die and your boss scarps the entire project rather then continue your legacy…It’s a slap in the face to kill a character that some worked hard to establish. Just recast and keep the story going.

What is up with these directors and writers insisting on killing the characters instead of just recasting?

— Khalel | Digital Artist (@Unseen__Logic)June 30, 2025

This tradition of not recasting needs to change. I’m 99% sure the actors who have passed would want to give that opportunity to another fellow actor. There’s thousands of black actors that could skyrocket their careers by playing this role & even Chadwick’s Black Panther role.

While some may question the decision to not recast Perdomo’s role, Kripke’s intention is clear: to pay tribute to the actor and his character in the best way possible. While the loss of such a talented actor is undoubtedly a tragedy, the show must go on, and in doing so, it will continue to celebrate the life and legacy of Chance Perdomo.
