22V’s Cane

Finish Them

V is a newcomer toDMC 5, and his unique abilities set him apart from the other playableDevil May Crycharacters.

Because ofV’s affliction, V can’t unleash powerful attacks. Instead of Devil Arms or guns, he attacks his enemies with his familiars, whichweaken his foes before he can deal the finishing blow with his cane, since enemies can’t die from their attacks.

By itself, the cane does negligible damage and can’t chain combos, as it is only a single, agonizingly slow strike.V can throw the cane at enemies and teleport to their location,or he can jump into the air and summon a hail of canes to finish off multiple foes at once.

21Coyote-A

The Ol' Reliable

Other than Ebony and Ivory, the shotgun is one of Dante’s most iconic guns, having made its debut in the firstDevil May Cry. Also known as the Coyote-A, this weapon is modded with enough power to blast demons into smithereens.

As a sawed-offdouble-barreled shotgun, the Coyote-A packs a lot of punch at close quartersbut is ineffective at longer ranges and has a slow fire rate.

When Dante switches to the Gunslinger style,he swings it around stylishly like a nunchuck, becoming more stylish and aggressive. This weapon allows Dante to push back enemies who get too close, but it doesn’t have much of a cool factor besides the appeal of a classic double-barreled shotgun.

20Dr. Faust

Dance Dance Revolution

Dr. Faust is a new weapon introduced inDevil May Cry 5,created by young gunsmith Nico. Created from the essence of a Faust demon fromDevil May Cry 4,this weapon takes the form of a cowboy hat and a ghastly red scarf that flows from Dante’s neck.

This weapon fires crystallized demon blood-like bullets while consuming Red Orbs–the currency that you collect to upgrade abilities and weapons throughout the game.

devil-may-cry-5-weapons-002

While Dr. Faust gave us a funny and iconic Michael Jackson-esque dance scene,it’s not the most reliable weapon to use during combos.

Because almost every one of its attacks consumes Red Orbs,Dr. Faust is a high-risk, high-reward weapon that can net you even more Red Orbs if you manage to put a hat on an enemy, though that runs the risk of you losing Red Orbs if you get hit.

19Kalina Ann & Kalina Ann II

Dodge This!

Kalina Ann is Lady’s iconic weapon and isa ridiculously large rocket launcher with an equally ridiculously deadly serrated bayonet. Dante later acquires the Kalina Ann II, a copy of the original created by Nico.

By itself, the Kalina Ann is a rocket launcher that fires explosive shots that can be charged.Alternatively, it can fire off a volley of rockets that can chain attacks.

But combined with the Kalina Ann II, Dante can dual-wield them, doubling the fire rate for more mass destruction. Not only that, butthese two rocket launchers can dock into each other to fire off devastating lasers.

While powerful by themselves, the Kalina Ann rocket launchers are slow, which makes it hard to hit enemies accurately and smoothly chain combos into other weapons.

18Nightmare

Imma Firin' Mah Lazar!

Nightmare is V’s ultimate weapon. A massive lumbering golem made of pitch-black goo,Nightmare can be summoned when V unleashes his Devil Trigger, which allows it to crash into battle like a meteor.

Its attacks are slow but devastating. Not only can it swing its arms like hammers, but it can also fire a powerful laser beam that can disintegrate any unfortunate demon caught in its range.

Unlike V’s other familiars,Nightmare doesn’t have a health bar but instead relies on V’s Devil Trigger gauge to remain on the battlefield. It can also be ridden as a walking tank, which makes it a powerful summon to use.

If Dangerous, Why Friend Shaped?

Shadow is V’s feline familiar and serves as aclose-range weapon with its spikes and claw attacks. It can also be used to help the sickly V dodge attacks and sprint outside of combat.

Among V’s familiars, Shadow can deal the most damage as it can be used most consistently to chain combos.

However,Shadow is vulnerable to damage and can be easily taken out of the fight temporarily if you’re not careful with recalling it.

Little Chicken

Like Shadow, Griffon is one of V’s core familiars andessentially acts as his “gun” thanks to his ability to fire electricity and lightning attacks.

Despite his low damage output in his basic attacks,Griffon is a reliable familiar thanks to his ability to help V double jump and increase his mobility.

Even without Shadow or Nightmare, V can reliably use Griffon to whittle down enemies, especially during Mission 14.

If you playDMC5and reach this mission, alwayspick Griffon first.

15Cavaliere

Demonic Horsepower

Forged from a bisected motorcycle combined with shards of Cavaliere Angelo’s armor and Trish’s lightning powers, the Cavaliere is a motorcycle with razor-sharp wheels that can be split into twin buzzsaws. It is quintessentially the mostDevil May Cryweapon in the franchise and trumpsevery other video game vehicle.

With the Cavaliere,Dante can switch between riding its bike form and swinging the heavy chainsaws into enemies. Its main mechanic is the “Gear Wheel” ability, which can trigger during attack animations where energy crackles around the weapon.

By itself, it is best used to hit large groups of enemies and catch them in a satisfying stun lock. Not only that, but using this weapon gives you super armor, which buffs your damage resistance and ensures that enemy attacks don’t knock you out of your attack animations.

The Cavaliere R is a DLC version of the weapon that not only adds a reddish color to the weapon but also adds an extra attack.

Cavaliere has the same issues as the Kalina Ann rocket launchers —its attacks are considerably slow and it is quite difficult to master because of the Gear Wheel mechanic.

Like Father, Like Son

TheDevil Sword Sparda is a badass sword that once belonged to Dark Knight Sparda, Dante and Vergil’s father. It is the awakened form of Force Edge, and takes the form of a menacing weapon wreathed in demonic flesh and adorned with bones.

As a sword wielded by Dante,Sparda shares a similar moveset with Rebellion, except for a handful of Swordmaster attacks, which are essentially remixes of Rebellion’s moves.

To be honest, the Devil Sword Sparda isn’t very impressive in terms of gameplay, despite its legendary status.Sparda acts exactly the same as Rebellion, and a basic attack in the air turns into a Helm Breaker, forcing you to press a different button and switch styles just to perform an Aerial Rave.

13Devil Bringer

Send Them Back To Hell

There’s nothing cooler than a pile driving a demon straight into the concrete, and the Devil Bringer lets you do that. In his debut inDMC4,Nero’s Devil Bringer has a glowing, demonic look.

He regrows that arm later inDMC5,and his Devil Bringer instead becomes spectral demonic hands that can execute grab attacks on enemies.

The Devil Bringer has a unique grab attack for each demon, which can only be executed on weaker enemies or when a boss is vulnerable and can deal massive damage.

Not only that, but if you time your inputs correctly, you can use the Devil Bringer to punch your enemy immediately after swinging Nero’s Red Queen to deal some extra damage.
