Destiny 2: The Final Shape is due to release on June 4th forPlayStation,Xbox, andPC, but fans looking to download and install the new expansion on Steam are in for a gigantic file size of 300GB. While the download is the largest we’ve ever seen for a DLC, it’s only temporary. But that hasn’t stopped fans from being annoyed.
Earlier this week, a newblog postappeared on Bungie’s official website, revealing pre-load details, the server downtime schedule, and the file size for Destiny 2’s highly anticipated expansion. While Destiny 2 servers will be offline for 24 hours for the upcoming release of its 8.0.0.1 update and The Final Shape DLC, pre-loading for The Final Shape has been confirmed for June 3rd.

Astro Bot’s Trailer Is Drastically Outperforming PlayStation’s New Shooter ‘Concord’
PlayStation fans are making it known which newly announced title they’re more excited about.
While pre-loading will officially begin on June 3rd, shortly after Destiny 2 is taken offline, Bungie has noted that PlayStation users “may be able to pre-download Update 8.0.0.1 starting on June 1” in an effort to decrease server load. But all other platforms, such as Xbox, Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Microsoft Store, will need to wait until June 3.

As for the free space you’ll need on your drive, that will vary depending on your platform of choice. For PlayStation 4 and 5 users, you’ll need 129.31GB and 143.81GB of free space, respectively. Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S users will require 139.52 GB and 165.82GB, respectively. While Epic Games Store and Microsoft Store users will require 279.66GB and 156.22GB, respectively.
But it is Steam’s required storage space that takes the cake, with a whopping 299.70GB required. However, Bungie notes that this includes the current installed version of Destiny (which can be up to 144.20GB) and the pre-load for update 8.0.0.1, which means the overall size used will be less after installation is complete.

Destiny 2 The Final Shape’s File Size Has Fans Concerned
Despite only being temporary, this hasn’t stopped the Destiny 2 community from being up in arms about the massive file size. Oneuser has saidthat they will be skipping the DLC altogether due to the 300GB download, whileanother simply said, “that’s a nope from me.”
A response from another user, however, raised the question of if Destiny 2: The Final Shape was actually “heavily un-optimized.”

Sure, this massive file size is only temporary. But it’s hard not to feel like you’ve been screwed over if you’ve got a slower internet connection. Then there’s the obvious fact of free hard drive space. While the overall size after its installation won’t actually be 300GB, it still requires users to make that much room beforehand.
With the size of games continuing to go up and up (I’m looking at you, Call of Duty), it’s a worrying thought that a 300GB DLC may one day be the norm.
