The Leviathan is a bossencountered during Chapter 6, and while this creature is featured in the originalDead Space, the boss fightdiffers slightly for the remake. Like before, you will come across The Leviathan within the Food Storage Room, where you will be forced to take it on in a zero-g environment. Only this time around, you will be able to float around the chamber instead of being confined to the walls. While defeating this boss may sound like a difficult task, The Leviathan is far from the hardest enemy you will take on. Here’s how to beat it.

Beating The Beginning Phase

There arethree distinct phasesfor The Leviathan boss fight, with the first being the easiest to conquer. When you first encounter the Leviathan, it will utilize its three large tendrils to attack you. However, the creature isimpervious to any attacks not focused upon the yellow weak spotsat the base of each tentacle - which are only exposed after an attack from The Leviathan.

During this phase, you must focus onevading the reach of the monster’s tendrils. you’re able to predict when The Leviathan is about to swing at you, as it will make aloud shriek before sending a tentacleyour way. The shriek is your queue to move out of the way. Once the weak point of a tentacle is exposed, focus fire on it until it retracts - or until the spot is no longer exposed.

Repeat the process, evading every attack, and thenfocusing fire on the exposed weak spots. If done so successfully, you should live through the first phase with little trouble.

Looking to do mass damage to the Leviathans' weak points? Thenutilize your kinesis ability to hurl explosive canisterstoward them. These canisters will float around the boss fight area, but are rather limited in their supply.

Beating The Second Phase

Once you have dealt enough damage to each of the Leviathan’s tentacles, the lights around the chamber will shut off abruptly, and the creature will let out a crackling roar to mark the beginning of the second phase. At this stage of the boss fight, the Leviathan’s tentacles will retract, and the creature will instead focus onspitting bursts of projectilestoward your location.

While you can shoot at incoming projectiles, they can often reach you before you can detonate them. Your best course of action is toutilize your kinesis abilitytosend each projectile back toward the Leviathan- either to detonate incoming projectiles or to deal damage to its central weak spot.

There will be periods between each burst attack in which the creature will seemingly rest. During these intervals between attacks, sit and wait for the creature to open its mouth, and thenfocus fire on its exposed weak point. When its rest is over, it will begin firing projectiles at you, which you will again need to either evade or throwback toward the creature.

Defeating The Leviathan

Once you have dealt enough damage during the second stage of the boss fight, the Leviathan will begin to emit a cloud of toxic gas - thus marking the beginning of the third and final phase. This portion of the boss fight is a combination of the first and second, in which the creature willutilize its tentacles and ranged projectilesto attack. However, you will have to move fast, as your oxygen levels will begin to deplete.

Much like before, you will need tododge each tentacle swing, whilst also putting up with the pressure of each ranged burst attack. The best strategy to employ is to keep on your toes, strafing after each shriekthe monster makes (marking a tentacle attack), and thengrab and throw back any incoming projectilestoward the center of the monster.

There will also be times when the monster ceases its projectile attacks, but these intervals will be much shorter than the previous phase. Again, focus fire toward the center weak spotduring the monster’s resting intervals once it is exposed. During each tentacle attack, additional weak points will also be exposed. However, again these intervals are quite brief. If you can, fire at these weak points following the Leviathans' attack, either with your primary weapon or by hurling one of the monster’s projectiles toward them.

Once you have dealt enough damage, the Leviathan will shriek and be ejected from the ship, thus marking its defeat. Take this time to find your bearings, or to even scavenge the area for any loot you might be missing out on.
