As James Gunn ushers in a new era of Superman into the revamped DC Universe, fans are wishing he would keep one traditional fashion statement that Clark Kent is known for. Generations of comic book film viewers have loved the story of Superman, and it would not be too much to ask to see this iconic style in the upcoming film.

With the exit of Henry Cavill as Superman, David Corenswet will now take on the mantle of the famed caped hero. The rigorous search for the next actor to don the red and blue suit took a while, and hopefully, the long wait will all be worth it.

I think it’s necessary just like seeing Superman flying

I want a big dramatic suit up scene where Clark is in a clothing store, trying to find the right civilian outfit and he sees a red/black plaid shirt and it’s framed like a huge, seminal moment

Superman: Legacyhas been confirmed to explore a younger version of the character. The news ofHenry Cavillofficially hanging up the suit for good was definitely one of the saddest events in comic book movie history, but it was necessary for the overhaul of the entire franchise.

The movie will be one of the biggest and most highly anticipated titles in the DC Universe, and while Gunn repeatedly expressed his passion for the subject, he was quite apprehensive about taking the project in the beginning. He wrote in aTwitterpost:
“I initially said no because I didn’t have a way in that felt unique and fun and emotional that gave Superman the dignity he deserved. Then a bit less than a year ago I saw a way in, in many ways centering around Superman’s heritage – how both his aristocratic Kryptonian parents and his Kansas farmer parents inform who he is and the choices he makes.”
Hopefully, the costume department will not forget to include Kent’s iconic red flannel because that is definitely one of the hallmarks of the superhero.

David Corenswet Reveals His True Intentions for Superman
WithDavid Corenswetfinally making his way into the DC Universe, he shared his hopes for the character and informed fans of what he plans to do with the character viaEntertainment Weekly:
“It came to my attention before the internet got a hold of me, but my pie-in-the-sky ambition is definitely to play Superman. I would love to see somebody do an upbeat, throwback [take on Superman]. I love the Henry Cavill dark and gritty take, but I would love to see the next one be very bright and optimistic.”
That seems exactly what James Gunn was also prepping for when he said Superman must show humanity and kindness despite his true heritage. Hopefully, Corenswet’s rendition of the character will satisfy the audience as much as the gritty version of Cavill’s Superman.
Superman: Legacywill arrive in theaters on August 23, 2025.
