Netflix has a very odd pattern when it comes to the shows that it creates. It is often the case that what Netflix puts out ends up becoming popular, only for the streaming giant to make the devastating decision to cancel it. However, this courtesy is not extended to shows and films that end up not doing so well, and once again, it seems that a Netflix decision is going to backfire on the streaming service.

While there is no doubt thatMindhunterwas nowhere close to being the global phenomenon thatSquid Gamewas, it must be noted that the former still had a vocal fanbase that was doing some good PR for the show.Squid Games, on the other hand, could as well have worked sticking to its South Korean roots, given that it was a cultural phenomenon anyway.

AMindhuntercontinuation would have been much more welcome to gaming fans, given that the show usually picked up steam once all the shows of the season began airing. However,Netflix specifically tapping Fincher to get itsSquid Gamesadaptation off the groundfeels a little odd, given that the director could be put to much better use working on a third season ofMindhunter.

Fincher might not get to make the third season ofMindhunter, but the director definitely has what it takes to get an adaptation of theSquid Gameoff the ground. Given that the show largely deals with real people getting stuck in a game that could potentially ruin their lives or be their salvation, there is a lot of similarity toThe Game, which was also a David Fincher project, which starred Michael Douglas and Sean Penn.
