Moreover, withFantastic Four‘s release getting pushed and Universal revealingJurrasic Park Rebirth‘s release date, things are looking a bit difficult for the next Superman, box-office-wise.

Although, technically,James Gunn‘s DCU will kickstart later this year withCreature Commandos, next year’sSupermanis set to be the first major entry in the new chapter of DC. Reasonably, every eye is on this project, and from what we’ve witnessed so far, frombehind-the-screen leaksto Gunn’s comments on the film’s status, things are looking quite promising.
Not only does it seem like this could be a return to form for the Man of Steel, who has yet to be done right on the big screen sinceChristopher Reeve’s Clark Kent, but Gunn’s passion for the IP has also reassured fans.

Unlike Batman, Superman has had a shaky track record when it comes to the commercial side of things. Even thoughMan of Steelwas the highest-grossing standalone Superman film to date, whichmadearound $668M at the box office, it fell short of what many expected. While far from a financial letdown, following Snyder’s expensive taste, as the film reportedly cost around $225M to make, it certainly didn’t hit things out of the park.

Although James Gunn’sSupermanhas a pretty good shot at dethroning theHenry Cavill-led flick, the fierce competition at the theatres could prove to be detrimental to its overall box-office run.
While fans will hope the first big DCU entry doesn’t get crushed between the two other gigantic IPs, there’s a pretty good possibility of this being one of the best Superman entries to date.
Supermanwill hit theatres on 09 August 2025.
