The curtains were recently closed on SmackDown, and the ending has left fans of the wrestling world confused and angry. All of this has something to do with Cody Rhodes on the journey to “Finish His Story.” The wrestler had made it clear that he was going to snatch the world title from Roman Reigns, someone who has been holding on to it for over a thousand days now.

Cody Rhodes postpones his battle with Roman Reigns

In an interesting turn of events at SmackDown, it looks like the much-awaited match between Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns could be taking a backseat for now. Well, let’s just say there might be a “Rock” in American Nightmare’s way.

The Rock to Take Cody Rhodes’ Place in WrestleMania 40?

During the climax of an adrenaline-fuelled SmackDown on the second of February, it appeared as ifCody Rhodeswas stepping back from his main spot at WrestleMania 40 and giving it up to none other thanDwayne Johnson. This happened after all signs pointed toward Rhodes facing off withRoman Reignsfor the championship. Now it looks like the main event for WrestleMania 40 is going to be Reigns vs. The Rock.

Needless to say, fans are not happy as everyone was looking forward to Rhodes fighting The Tribal Chief. This leads us to the next question: When will the American Nightmare get a chance to finally “finish his story?” Well,PWInsidermight have an update for the fans.

“You can clearly see Cody Rhodes losing all emotion”: Cody Rhodes’ Reaction to Dwayne Johnson Taking His Spot is Heartbreaking

“The reality is this: while the story was primed to climax at Wrestlemania 40, there were already some in the company openly talking about the idea of Cody winning the World Heavyweight Championship and then challenging the winner of Roman vs. Rock for Summerslam in a title unification bout so that Cody could finally, really, we promise this time, finish the story.”

It looks like even though there is a strong chance that the cousins might be facing each other in the ring once again, Rhodes will still get to bring his story to fruition, one way or another. Is it a win-win situation for all?

Fans are Not Pleased to See The Rock Return

A Johnson vs. Reigns match has been awaited by the fans for a long, long time. However, now that it actually might be happening, people do not seem to be happy one bit. During the ending of SmackDown, Rhodes announced that while he was coming for Reigns’ title, he would not be doing so at WrestleMania 40.

“So, is finishing the story taking that Championship from you, or is finishing the story taking everything from you?… I want that title, I want everything and I am coming for it. I am coming for you, Roman Reigns. But not at WrestleMania.”

Undoubtedly, a match between Reigns and Johnson will be the biggest moneymaking event, but it sure does come at the expense of what the fans want. While there has been no official confirmation yet, the WrestleMania press conference on February 08 might have some answers for the fans.
