Honestly, it’s a little surprising that it’s taken so long forCivilization VIto come to PS4 and Xbox. The grand strategy game came toNintendo Switchalmost a year ago. You would think a PS4 or Xbox One could handle the port even easily. That said, it’s great to finally see the game coming over. What’s not great is the lack of cloud saves across platforms.
Withcross-playbeing such a hot button issue of late, you’d almost expect a game likeCivto support it out of the gate. However, these things can be tricky, so I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. The fact that PS4 doesn’t allow you to copy a save from Steam to your console seems like a mistake.
You have to assume it’s a Sony choice, given that the feature is available everywhere else. If it was Sony’s decision, it’s an odd one to make after finally agreeing to fully support cross-play in games that allow it. If you’re trying to engender some goodwill by hopping on the bandwagon, it doesn’t make much sense to immediately go the other way on a new issue.
Civilization VIwill be out on PS4 and Xbox One on November 22. The game is already available on Nintendo Switch and PC. So, if you can’t wait, feel free to pick it up there.
