Chainsaw Man Anime Gets Official Episode Count With New Trailer

Pochita is a small dog-like devil with a chainsaw on its forehead that Denji treats as a pet. Denji uses Pochita as a regular chainsaw to cut down trees or devils in half when hunting devils for the Yakuza.

This post contains SPOILERS for Chainsaw Man anime’s first episode.

Denji’s Blood Saves Pochita, And The Chainsaw Devil Returns The Favor

Halfway through the episode, Denji is shown greatly outnumbered and being relentlessly stabbed and slashed by the zombies of the Zombie Devil. The next scene then has Denji’s decapitated head and scattered body parts in a dumpster right on top of the almost-dead body of Pochita. While this would be the end for any normal human, Denji’s bond with Pochita begins their new deal and saves Denji’s life.

Pochita, being a devil, is healed by consuming blood. When a bit of Denji’s blood gets into Pochita’s mouth in the dumpster, Pochita is given just enough strength to remember that Denji wanted Pochita to take and use his body if he died.

In a flashback, we see Denji accepting a grim future ahead of him, full of fighting devils and being willing to do anything for money. Denji understood this would eventually mean he would die at the hands of a devil. So, he asks Pochita to take and use his body to go on living in case the worst ever happens.

After remembering Denji’s words, Pochita doesn’t fully take Denji’s body but instead makes a new deal with him. After listening to his dreams, Pochita agrees to become his heart so he (Denji) can live a normal life and chase after his dreams. In this deal, Denji is now given the powers of Pochita and becomes the Chainsaw Man.

Having Pochita as his heart, Denji is now a hybrid human-devil. This gives him the power to heal just like a devil does. After awakening in the dumpster, Denji’s body parts are connected and brought back together, bringing him back to life. Not only do Pochita’s healing abilities save Denji at that moment, but they also fill in the missing organs he had before the battle.

After being in severe debt, Denji resorted to selling some of his smaller organs for money. Now, being a hybrid, those missing organs were healed, and he is seen with both eyes. With Pochita as his new heart, Denji survives, even after being cut up into bits, and is shown fighting through devastating hits from the Zombie Devil.

Season 1 of Chainsaw Man will have atotal of 12 episodes, each sure to be filled with other death-defying moments for Denji and his heart Pochita.
