Call of Duty’s anti-cheat system RICOCHET has received a major update ahead of Season 3 ofModern Warfare 2andWarzone 2. The update makes the game’s anti-cheat system capable of detecting malicious third-party hardware across all modes.Call of Duty has been improving its RICOCHET anti-cheat tool and bringing new technologies to combat unfair play for quite some time. However, some players were left frustrated due to its tolerance on cheating with some third-party hardware, like Cronus. Particularly in PS4 and PS5, the number of cheaters in all modes has increased over the past few months, which also significantly decreases the player experience. Although RICOCHET has been doing a good job at detecting and banning cheaters, players feel that the issue of using third-party hardware, including in the ranked mode, is still frequent.

The developer team revealed that a brand-new replay investigation tool has been deployed, which helps the anti-cheat system protect the integrity of the multiplayer mode in MW2 and WZ2. Perhaps most importantly, RICOCHET can now detect third-party hardware devices which act as a passthrough for controllers on PC and console. These devices allow players to gain unfair gameplay advantages like reducing and eliminating recoil. Infinity Ward said that testing is complete, meaning the detection is now deployed on all supported platforms.

Players who are detected to be using third-party hardware on their devices will receive a warning, and continued improper use of this hardware will lead to a ban across Call of Duty titles. “We know players have been asking us to examine the improper use of these devices, and we’re happy to lay the foundation for this detection to protect against unfair play across PC and console.” Infinity Ward said via ablog post.

From now on, RICOCHET can also adjust the skill rating for players that have frequently played with banned cheating accounts to take back their unfair gains. The new investigation process, on the other hand, allows RICOCHET to collect more gameplay data to identify cheating behavior. It will automatically capture and store match data for the highest level of multiplayer for potential investigation use.
