Black Ops 6 May Finally Be Fixing Call Of Duty’s Awful UI

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 looks set to completely overhaul the game’s current UI design, according to a prominent leaker.

In an interview withGamesRadar, associate design director, Kevin Drew, confirmed “round-based zombies” would be making a return in Black Ops 6. The lead also discussed how Treyarch and Raven Software are focused on reuniting players with the elements that made the zombie-led titles so iconic in the next installment.

Taking what the devs learned fromBlack Ops Cold War, the director explained Black Ops 6’s development involved “refining what we established…but it’s also about looking to our past - at the elements we thought worked really well that we wanted to bring back”. Ultimately, Drew explained his team has “really set out to create the best version of zombies” in years.

Two maps are confirmed to be available with the launch of Black Ops 6 this fall, and those are Liberty Falls and Terminus. Liberty Falls is “an iconic zombies location” harboring a small town in the Appalachian Mountains, whereas Terminus is a nighttime endeavor set on a prison island in the Pacific Ocean. Drew outlined what to expect from each expanse, saying “each one offers a very different experience, and serves different narrative and gameplay purpose.”

Drew also touched on Black Ops 6’s story, teeing up “a simultaneous situation, telling a story of two places at the same time” that is teased to continue the “big cliffhanger” at the end of Black Ops Cold War. Drew confirms the Black Ops 6 story will pick up five years later following Dr. Peck who is “starting a rescue mission to break the crew out of [Terminus'] prison”.

Finally, the director confirmed four, zombie-specific Operators will serve as part of the Zombies story, saying “you’re able to still use any Operator, but when you use these four within our maps, you’re going to get a much deeper experience.” Drew confirmed these experiences would include narrative cinematics with “specific and additional VO too”.
