X-Men ’97has been constantly delivering and exhilarating fans with its intriguing storyline, nostalgic aesthetics, and captivating action. A continuation of the originalX-Men: The Animated Series, the animated show, has been widely dubbed by fans and critics as the best Marvel show to be made.
While it has been receiving extreme praise, the show delivered a heavy blow when it killed off two of the most beloved characters: Gambit and Magneto. The original voice actor for Gambit, Chris Potter, remarked that while he is angry about Gambit’s death, he revealed that only Cable can bring him back now.

Hence, there have been several theories floating across the internet detailing how the series can possibly bring him back.
And Potter, while at the Calgary Expo 2024 (viaAgents of Fandom), gave his own theory or a potential spoiler as to how the series can bring Remy LeBeau back.
“They told me I’d be playing a new character. I said, ‘What do you mean? I’m Gambit.’ They said, ‘Not anymore, we’re killing him off in episode 3. You’re going to be Cable now.’ Now, as it turns out, Cable is the only one who can bring Gambit back.”
While he did not confirm whether he was talking about his return (since he willnow be voicing Cable) or Gambit’s return, the actor’s words can also mean that he might have just spoiled the series’ three-part finale,Tolerance is Extinction.
Can Gambit Be Brought Back?
Recently, Jake Castorena, the head director and supervising producer ofX-Men ’97, remarked toScreen Rantthat Gambit and Magneto were dead, and there was no way the show would be bringing them back.

“But ultimately, at the end of the day, Gambit and Magneto are dead and we’ll have to watch the series unfold to further understand what those consequences are going to be.”
Yet in the aftermath of episode 7, it is revealed that Bastion, a usual antagonist in Marvel Comics, has been keeping a secret. His secret is none other than Magneto, who has been captured and imprisoned by him.
And so, while Magneto is alive, albeit being kept by Bastion to potentially create Prime Sentinels using humans, it also hints that Gambit can make a return. Even though the importance and legacy of his sacrifice would greatly diminish, LeBeau might be resurrected usingCable’s time-traveling antics.
