TheBoruto: Naruto Next Generationsseries has long been a topic of controversy as the sequel to the belovedNarutoseries. While fans expected the continuation to honor its roots, the series has often stumbled in delivering on its promises. However, apart from the blatant disregard of its predecessor, another significant issue associated with its mishandling of key characters, most notably Sasuke Uchiha. Once a prodigy, now treated as an insignificant character!

Despite being one of the most important and complex characters in the original series, Sasuke’s role inBorutohas been underwhelming and, at times, baffling. It’s really beyond comprehension as to how could a character so integral to the foundation of the ninja world be sidelined to the point of irrelevance.
The wasted potential of Sasuke Uchiha inBoruto
InBoruto,Sasuke Uchihahas been portrayed to spend over a decade investigating the Otsutsuki clan, delving into their origins, motives, and possible threats to the ninja world. Given the clan’s significance in theBorutostoryline, this research should have been a crucial asset for Konoha’s readiness against looming threats. However, Sasuke’s missions were largely left ambiguous throughout the series.
So, what was it that Sasuke discovered during his travels? Why did none of it translate into a concrete strategy for protecting Konoha? The Otsutsuki clan’s unpredictable attacks on Earth caught the village off-guard, as though Sasuke’s decade of effort amounted to nothing. His absence from the village, justified under the pretense of gathering intelligence, feels like a wasted opportunity that left fans questioning the purpose of his entire journey in theBorutoseries.

Masashi Kishimoto Still Has Time to Fix Boruto by Undoing a Mistake Even Akira Toriyama Made
The time skip presented a unique opportunity to showcaseSasuke as a proper mentor to Boruto, much like Jiraiya was to Naruto. However, the manga squandered this chance by reducing Sasuke’s role to little more than a symbolic gesture. He handed Boruto his cloak and sword but failed to impart significant knowledge or training.
This neglect showsBoruto‘s struggle to strike a balance between its legacy characters and its current story. In addition to offending fans who eagerly followed Sasuke’s path inNaruto, the plot compromised a crucial aspect of its own lore by ignoring Sasuke’s quest.

The erasure of the previous generations inBoruto
Not only sidelining Sasuke, but one of the most frustrating aspects ofBorutois its disregard for the previous generations, including the Konoha 11 and Team 7. These characters, who were once central to the heart of theNarutoseries, have beenmostly omitted with little explanation.
This erasure not only alienates longtime fans but also undermines the intergenerational themes thatNarutodisplayed. The series thrived on the relationships between the old and new generations, with mentors passing down their knowledge and values. By removing these connections,Borutoloses a key element of its predecessor’s emotional resonance.

Sasuke Uchiha’s treatment inBorutofurther emphasizes the broader issue with the series: its inability to balance the legacy ofNarutowith the demands of its own story. As the main rival of Naruto, neglecting his role, and erasing the contributions of the previous generation,Borutofails to honorMasashi Kishimoto‘s original rich narrative foundation it inherited.
