After its ten-year hiatus,Bleachmade its comeback in 2022 with its sequelThousand Year Blood War. Kubo’s series is currently on par with yet another top-shot contender One Piece.

And while both series share rivalries, they started as shonen jump’s big three along with Naruto. But that is not all, considering the stark difference between both masterpieces. And there’s more to it.
While Oda set a benchmark in the world of shonen storytelling, Kubo isn’t too far behind. The ten-year hiatus is proving to be a boon for the mangaka with its trailblazing sequel.

From IMDb ratings to Rotten Tomatoes score, Kubo might overtake his contemporaries with one key aspect. This, however, doesn’t devalue Oda and his brilliant storytelling in any manner whatsoever.
Bleachand its potential to overtakeOne Piece
More often than not,Bleachis deemed as the weakest among the Big Three of Shonen. From sales to worldbuilding, there are several aspects attributed to its claim of being weak. The tides, however, are turning in Kubo’s favor with his sequel seriesThousand Year Blood War.
The series is centered on the Quincy Blood War arc that outlines the war between quincies and the Shinigami. The arc is the aftermath of the events that followed Aizen’s defeat. But it isn’t simply the arc that makes it appealing as there’s more to it.

With improved animation and the mangaka’s involvement, the sequel looks more than promising. What makes the series stand out is its outlining of death and violence.
On most occasions, Kubo didn’t hold back in showcasing some of the disturbing moments in the series. From Ichigo’s hollowfication to Orihime’s abuse, the series went dark. But there’s one key aspect that can put it on par withOne Piece.

Re:Zero Brings Back the Series’ Most Powerful Character Sparking Hope by Using an Overused Anime Trope the Right Way
While Oda intermingles plot and characters in his process, Kubo prioritizes the characters. He revealed in aninterview:
Characters first!I really don’t intend that characters have certain personalities when I come up with them. Sometimes I can’t think of any new characters. Then other times, I come up with 10 or more new characters.

Kubo has a range of diverse yet complex characters including Urahara, Gin, and Uryu. His ability to prioritize characters and a fluid approach is what puts him on par with Oda.
With TYBW, the character’s layered and complex persona shines through along with their growth. And while the mangaka has the upper hand against his rival, Oda isn’t too far behind with his brilliant writing.
Eiichiro Oda and Tite Kubo might be on par with each other
To sayEiichiro Odais phenomenal would be an understatement considering his contribution to the Shonen genre. The series impacted culture and society with its world building and concepts. For three decades, Oda has hooked readers and viewers through his impeccable storytelling and literary prowess.
While his series lacks the dark and disturbing aspects, he makes up for it in more ways than one. This is especially true with his take on characters, which proves both he andTite Kuboare on par with each other.
As opposed to Kubo’s fluid approach, Oda enmeshes plot and characters in his storytelling. He revealed his characterization process in aninterviewwhere he said:
It all starts with whether I like the character or not. I can’t work with characters I don’t vibe with. The worst thing you can do is force in a character just because they’re trendy, without any real personality. If I like the character, at least I’m a fan. But if I make them without care, they might end up with no fans at all
Eiichiro Oda’s knack for extremes is prevalent in his morally ambiguous characters, including Aokiji and Kuzan. While both mangaka outline diversity in their character lineup, one thing is certain.

Both seem to be evenly matched in terms of their characters. But when it comes to worldbuilding and versatility,One Piecetakes the cake. This, however, doesn’t negate Thousand Year Blood War’s potential to overturn Oda’s series. With high ratings and top scores, Tite Kubo has the potential to surpass his rival.
BleachandOne Pieceare available for streaming on Hulu . Both manga are available for reading on Viz Media.
