It has been over six years sinceBioShockcreator Ken Levine and his team shipped a game, withBioShock Infinitelaunching in 2013 and its subsequent two-part DLC,Burial at Sea, later arriving in 2014. Since that time, the studio hasrebranded from Irrational Games to Ghost Story Gamesand has also downsized to work on more narrative-focused experiences. Levine, still the company’s president, hasn’t shied away from the fact thathe has ideas for what he’ll be doing next, but we haven’t seen or heard specifically about the shape that this new project will take.

As of now though, it seems we finally have one nugget of info that confirms one key detail about Levine’s next game. Seen via ajob posting from Take-Two Interactive, it was confirmed that Ghost Story’s upcoming game is in the immersive sim genre. The job listing doesn’t go on to mention any other specifics about the game, but it does request that applicants also be familiar with shooters and action RPGs in addition to the immersive sim genre.

WhileBioShockandBioShock Infinitewouldn’t necessarily be identified as immersive sims first and foremost, the DNA of that genre is all over both of those titles. The fact that Levine and Ghost Story are continuing to work within the confines of this genre though definitely makes it seem like this new game could be more closely related toBioShockthan previously thought.

That said, whatever this new game ends up becoming will surely be much smaller in scope compared toBioShockorInfinite. The team at Ghost Story Games working on this title is comprised of less than 40 people, meaning that making games of the same scale as pastBioShockwon’t be happening. Still, even just knowing the genre that Ghost Story is working on is enough to generate a bit of excitement for this secretive game.

As for the future of theBioShockfranchise, previouspersonnel moves at 2K Games seem to indicate that a new entry in the series could be in development. Hopefully, we’ll end up learning if this is true in the coming future.
