What we are going to discuss here is that ending piece where everything is finally revealed, surprisingly against anything we could have imagined. If you are looking for stories to make your jaw drop in the end, we have a handful of suggestions here.
~ This article spoils the ending of all the games listed below. ~

10Grand Theft Auto IV
There is no doubt thatGrand Theft Auto IVwas one of the unique experiences in the series up until now. Following the story of a European refugee in the unforgiving streets of Liberty City, Niko experienced so many tough days and got involved in a filthy business that wasn’t even close to his dreams of the United States.
However, when everything seemed to be working out for Niko after all the dangers he went through, his past caught up with him once more to take his beloved one just in front of his eyes. Both endings of Grand Theft Auto IV add a bitter taste to the story that lasts forever, but the one with Kate’s death was probably much more painful.

9The Legend Of Tianding
This one is a hidden gem from 2022 that you might have not even heard about, which is good, as you now have a new game to explore. The Legend of Tianding is a 2D story-driven adventure about an assassin who helps the poor people invaded by the Japanese army to take their homeland back.
While during the whole story, it seems like Tianding has been betrayed by a group of cult members, his primary enemy was much closer to him than you could have imagined. We are not going to spoil this particular ending as it is a game that not many people have played, but trust us, you will be impressed at the end.

8Spec Ops: The Line
When you start playingSpec Ops: The Line, you probably don’t expect it to feature a deep and twisted story, but it indeed has one of the most shocking endings we have witnessed in a shooter game.

Imagine you are fighting against an evil squad of rogue soldiers in a buried city, only to find out that you have been the leader of this wicked group all this time. The more you make progress in the game, the more you learn about Konrad’s vicious nature, but is there really a Konrad out there? The game’s final revelation hits home perfectly, leaving the player in agony about what he has been doing in the game since the very beginning.
7Brothers: A Tale Of Two Sons
Joseph Fares' debut video game was indeed a banger as big as his latest masterpiece,It Takes Two. Offering a story-driven co-op experience,Brothers: A Tale of Two Sonsfollows the story of two brothers who need to delve into a dangerous journey to collect curing water from the Tree of Life, which is the only thing that could save their father from death.
During the game, players get to know each brother’s fears, but they also see how they can overcome obstacles with cooperation. This incredible chemistry of brothers is the main reason why it feels so painful to lose one of them, and then watching the little brother overcome his fears while there is no one to help him avoid them. Until the very last moment, the player expects a miracle to save the older brother, but that bitterness of the ending never goes away.

6BioShock Infinite
Ken Levine and his team at the now-defunctIrrational Gamestold a story that still gives us goosebumps when we remember it. Similar to Spec Ops: The Line,BioShock Infiniteis also a story about the player themselves, but with bigger twists.
Unlike Spec Ops: The Line, which reveals everything in the end and leaves you with multiple options to end the agony, BioShock Infinite slowly adds up to the twists while giving away small hints at the fact that the ending will be something you can’t guess easily. But the way BioShock Infinite wraps things up is what makes it stand out from Spec Ops: The Line, when the player meets their death with all Elizabeths surrounding them.

Telltale’s The Walking Deadwas a great source of inspiration for many story-driven games to come with branching stories, allowing the player to shape their destiny and the fate of other characters by making tough decisions. The game’s Season 1, however, was also a masterpiece in story-telling, with an ending that we never forget about.
The impressive part about the game’s ending wasn’t the fact that Lee eventually died, but it was that decision we had to make, to either kill Lee with our own hands or let him turn into a zombie, both of which were equally painful.
Braidis one of the video games that there are still ongoing debates about its ending and what it actually means. No matter which theory about the ending is eventually the truth, this is a common belief among the community that it was indeed a shocking wrap-up for the mysterious adventures of a man who we used to think was trying to cover his mistakes by going back in time.

Similar to Spec Ops: The Line, Braid’s ending is also a shocking scene that reveals the real villain of the game was the player himself all the time, but it leaves it to players to shape up the bigger picture, though gives them enough hints.
Forget aboutMafia: Definitive Edition! If you haven’t played the original version ofMafia, you are missing something huge. Although the remake depicts almost all the events of the game correctly, it messes up with all the classic dialogues written for characters, wiping out one of the game’s strongest parts.
Telling the story of an organized-crime captain wasn’t an easy job with the technological limits of the 2000s, but Mafia delivers a classic story with a classic ending in the best possible shape. What makes the ending even more impactful is the final monologue of Tommy Angelo. This is easily one of the best monologues in gaming’s history, but it was replaced with something too simple in the Definitive Edition.
2The Forgotten City
Coming from anElder Scrollsmodder, The Forgotten City is a story-telling masterclass. The game never fails to surprise you with new revelations that completely change your view of the city and its residents.
The game features four different endings, and all of them are impressive, but the final ending is truly something beyond imagination. Getting the chance to meet the real person behind this doomed city and succeeding to trick him is what makes The Forgotten City a memorable experience. But the game doesn’t leave everything there, it continues to show you how all the characters you met in the city have changed in the real-life timeframe, which is a quite satisfying ending, leaving almost no unanswered questions.
1Katana Zero
Probably the best thing to compareKatana Zero’s ending to is Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049. You are playing as a contracted assassin who is trying to live a peaceful life with an unclear memory that he was robbed when he was a child.
But as you progress forward, you find out that the memory was nothing but a lie to yourself. You are just a killing machine, and you were indeed the one who robbed a kid before losing your memory and forgetting about all those filthy contracts you have done. This ending leaves players with so much to think about, especially the relationship between the samurai and the kid living next to his apartment.
