It’s been over ten years since we have received a new game in theBanjo-Kazooieseries and longtime fans are arguably antsier than ever before to see the beloved bear and bird return in their own new title. While many of these fans are surely hoping that Banjo and Kazooie will return in a proper platforming installment, a new fan project might change the minds of many when it comes to what genre the pair should dive into next.Recently shared on Twitter by artistJon Davies, we were given a look at whatBanjo-Kazooiewould look like if it was transformed into a pixel art, turn-based RPG. Davies said that this animation was based on the Mario RPGs of yesteryear, with the most notable comparison likely being that ofSuper Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars.This nearly 30-second animation from Davies shows off how he imagines combat would work in aÂBanjo-KazooieRPG, in addition to how special moves would seemingly work. The UI is also reminiscent of what we’ve seen in previous games in the series, too, with a new bar showing the number of eggs that you have at your disposal appearing, too. Lastly, the animation is also backed by theTreasure Trove Cove remix trackwhich was created specifically forÂSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Davies says that this animation is based on an initialpiece of art that was put together back in 2017, which also gained a fair amount of notoriety at the time. The original idea, which is said to come from oneAugust Bigelow, is honestly a fantastic one and makes me wish that Rare and Microsoft were doing more with the IP at this current time.
While Banjo and Kazooie haven’t gone on a new adventure of their own in quite a long time, perhaps pieces like this one from Davies will inspire an encourage Microsoft to once again greenlight a new game in the franchise. Even if it doesn’t turn out to be an RPG like we’ve seen created here, anything new involving Banjo and Kazooie whatsoever would truly be wonderful. I mean, if anything,the duo’s inclusion inÂSuper Smash Bros. Ultimatelast yearcertainly proved that there still is quite a lot of excitement around both characters, so hopefully, it won’t be too long before we get a new installment in the franchise.
