Nintendo announced on December 30 it has no plans to releaseBanjo-Kazooieon the Wii U Virtual console. The game was erroneously listed on an official Nintendo release schedule earlier on December 30, as to be released on the same day. Another game,Blast Corps, was mistakenly listed as well. The listing stated both games would release on the Wii U virtual console.

This is how the official Nintendo release schedule looked at 15:00 JST, December 30 (courtesy ofGame Watch):

The game listed isBanjo and Kazooie’s Great Adventure, which is the Japanese name of the original N64Banjo-Kazooiegame.

Later on, the schedule was updated, with both games disappearing. Moreover, an apology explaining it was an error was added to the top of the schedule page

Banjo-KazooieandBlast Corpsare both games developers by Rare, released on Nintendo 64. Rare is now owned by Microsoft, releasing their games on Xbox consoles such asXbox Series X.

Banjo-Kazooiewas first released on August 19, 2025, in USA. These days, Banjo and Kazooie are also playable inSuper Smash Bros Ultimate.

There’s a huge demand for a newBanjo-Kazooiegame, and there’s definitely a demand forBanjo-Kazooieon Switch, new or not, but it doesn’t seem like it’ll happen. The composer of the seriespreviously mentionedhe’s not sure if there will ever be a new game. And nowadays there’s thespiritual successorYooka-Laylee.

Now, does that error means Nintendo and Microsoft has plans for aBanjo-Kazooieport or new game on Switch? Was that a calculated mistake for stealth marketing? There’s no way to know. I personally doubt any of these theories, and that’s probably really just a mistake from the people in charge. And speaking of my Unneeded Opinion: Personally, having played bothSuper Mario 64andBanjo-Kazooiewhen they first released, I always preferred the former. Then again both games are pretty different at the end of the day, and I find pretty weird that online discussion Battle Tendency to always pit both games against each other.
