Baldur’s Gate 3has been at the top of a lot of Game of the Year lists, and one of the things that’s kept it there is the stellar writing of its storylines and characters. However, one self-described “loot goblin” is now taking issue that an item they’d hoarded since very early in the game didn’t have a purpose later on, even though it seems to be exactly what one character is looking for.
That character is Omeluum, a friendly mind flayer scholar who is free of The Elder Brain’s control. Players can find Omeluum in Ebonlake Grotto prior to Act 3, where they not only serve as a trader but offer to attempt to remove the player character’s tadpole (although they will always fail spectacularly).

Commerce can be explosive.
After inadvertently making the tadpole stronger, Omeluum will offer to sell the player character the Ring of Mind Shielding, which will limit the tadpole’s power, or conversely, simply give it to the character if they can pass a skill check. But Reddit user Volk28offered a different solutionthat they wish had been included in the game. Ever the scholar, Omeluum speaks of their desire for information on the Nautolid, which the player just happened to possess, having picked up an Ilithid Rune Slate way back on the Nautolid that contains actual schematics for it.
“I think ‘Oh wait, I’ve got some actual SCHEMATICS for you, lemme get them.’ Only, after retrieving them and coming back, I found there’s no option to give Omeluum the schematics,” they posted. “It would’ve been nice to give my boy exactly what he wanted rather than being put through a skill check.”

Although that particular player’s immersion was broken a bit by the lack of logic in that Scenario, Larian Studios has a support team that really seems to listen to its players and hasgreat a track recordof putting out massive (and often humorous) patch notes, so it’s not beyond the possibility that this slate may find some additional use in the future.
