The city of Baldur’s Gate is massive and encompasses most of the game’s third act.Baldur’s Gate 3offers tons of side content for players to engage with, and the big city is full of opportunities to help out or cause more trouble.

While exploring the sewers, players will come across many members of the Cult Of The Absolute who are messing with the city’s water supply. With the Sluice Gate now blocked, it’s up to the player to open it up again.
The One-Check Way
Upon entering the room with the shut Sluice Gate, playerscan first make a check to open the gate the easy way. Along theleft side of the different contraptions on the pipes is a wheelthat is stuck. Interacting with the wheel will have youmake adifficult athletics checkto try and force the door open. Each character in your party can try. This check isvery difficult and happens as a quick roll after interacting with the wheel.Be sure toapplyGuidanceor any other athletics boostyou can to the character before proceeding with the check. If you cannot open the door with this method, you’ll need to utilize the pumps.

Activating The Pumps
This method is fairly simple, as there are only two pumps, and you need both of them to get to the right levels. Thewater pump is on the left,and theheat is on the right.Start at the water pumpon the left, andinteract with it to make the water levels rise.Hover over the pump you interacted with to see a timer at the top showing its levels. Gostand near the heat pump and interact with it once the water levels reach “perfect water level.”
You can monitor the water levels by hovering over the water wheel, even from a distance, making sure you can time this correctly. Interacting with the heat pump will activate the heater, which willquickly reach the correct level while the water is also at “perfect water level.“Timing these up will open the Sluice Gate. Should you mess up the timing,interact with the release on the far right of the roomto start over. Opening this door grants players another route to explore Baldur’s gate and complete many of thequests throughout the city.
