Character customization is a huge part ofBaldur’s Gate 3, and D&D. Through appearance and classes, you make a character that is unique and your own. Of all the classes in Baldur’s Gate 3, Warlock offers extended customization through its Eldritch Invocations.
Baldur’s Gate 3: 15 Best Warlock Spells
Warlocks need to choose which spell to learn carefully. Here are the best ones to pick from in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Invocations are special abilities Warlocks choose as they level up, separate from subclasses and spells. Most Invocations grant spells outside the usual Warlock spell list, while others grant passive features to improve your character’s weaknesses. A max-level Warlock in Baldur’s Gate 3 can learn 6 of the 19 Invocations. This list details the best ones you’ll want to consider for your spell-slinging Warlock.

Updated by Mitchell Reid on June 20, 2025:Warlocks have access to a limited number of Invocations that can’t be changed unless you respec. We’ve included a few more options to choose from that still have some great utility.
Baldur’s Gate 3
15Fiendish Vigor
Extra Health At Will
Gaining bound spells as an at-will ability is especially useful as a Warlock. You only have a few spell slots to spare, and spending them on spells that offer little upcast is a bad choice. Fiendish Vigor grants the spell False Life as a bound spell.
You don’t spend any spell slots to cast it with the Invocation, and it grants you seven temporary hitpoints to shield your regular health. It’s not much, but it can definitely come in handy when you are in a pinch. If you’re playing on Tactician Mode, a few hitpoints can be all the difference between winning a fight, and a party wipe.

14Thief Of Five Fates
Bane Of Your Enemies’ Existence
Bane is a spell Warlocks can’t access unless they take Thief of Five Fates. It’s a decent spell, subtracting a d4 from affected enemies’ attacks and saving throws, making them both more susceptible to damage and less dangerous. You expend a spell slot to cast it, but it is a spell with some upcast benefits.
You can target one extra enemy for each spell level above first. You can take the Invocation as early as level two, and it works well throughout the early game when bonuses are small. The saving throw targets charisma, a stat most enemies aren’t invested in keeping high. The downside is you can only cast Bane once per long rest with this Invocation.

13Beast Speech
Find Out What The Dog Is Doing
The Beast Speech Invocation grants you another bound spell you can cast without a spell slot. You can cast Speak with Animals at will, opening up a lot of new characters you can speak with. Larian Studios went above and beyond in developing the animals in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Every beast has something to say if you speak to them. It’s not always something important, but some animals can offer surprising insight into both lore and quests. Furthermore, encounters with hostile beasts can usually be avoided if you speak to them. Speak with Animals will also let you speak to Scratch and the owlbear cub at camp, adding another layer of complexity to these furry companions.

12Otherworldly Leap
Reach New High Places
Mobility is key to winning battles. If you take the high ground with ranged characters, not only are you getting a bonus to your attacks, but you’re making it harder for enemies to reach you. Otherworldly Leap lets you reach better ground more easily by letting you cast Jump at will.
Normally, Jump would be an awful choice to spend a warlock spell slot on, but the Invocation lets you cast it for free. Since it has no cost, there’s no reason not to use it as often as possible. Second only to flight, enhanced jumping is more efficient than normal movement.

11Dreadful Word
Confuse And Conquer
Confuse is a powerful spell Warlocks can only access through the Dreadful Word Invocation. It has a wide six-meter radius area of effect that you’re able to place up to 18 meters away. Every enemy in that zone has a chance to become confused.
Confusion makes that creature hostile to everyone which means you can make your foes turn on each other, or skip their turns entirely. It has no upcast benefits, so high-level Warlocks lose out in theory, but in practice the spell is so good anyway, you’re not missing much. It is a concentration spell, however, so it can be hard for Warlocks to maintain.
10Book Of Ancient Secrets
Three Free Spells Every Long Rest
While this Invocation seems like it would be exclusive to the Pact of the Tome, any Warlock can acquire the Book of Ancient Secrets. This Invocation gives you three spells you’re able to cast once each, per long rest, without expending a spell slot.
The first is Ray of Sickness, a first-level spell that can poison your enemy. The book grants a second first-level spell in Chromatic Orb, letting you deal damage of your choice and leave a hazardous surface. Lastly, you gain a casting of Silence, preventing casters from using most of their spells within the silenced area. Most of these spells are on the weaker side compared to yourbest Warlock spells, but each one is an extra resource at your disposal.
9Mask Of Many Faces
Become Someone Else
Disguising yourself as other people has a few benefits in Baldur’s Gate 3. With the Mask of Many Faces Invocation, you’re able to cast the Disguise Self spell at will. You can change your character to any of the playable races at any times.
The first benefit from this is throughSpeak With Dead: you’re able to talk to corpses you’ve made since they won’t recognize you. Unlike the tabletop game, this spell is closer to shape-shifting than illusion. It can change your size, so it will also allow you toslip into those pesky crevices and small entrances. You can also use the spell to meet certain racial requirements, like transforming into a Githyanki to receive extra benefits from wielding the Githyanki Greatsword.
8Life Drinker
Extra Melee Damage
Warlocks wishing to play a spell-and-blade combat style ought to choose Life Drinker when it becomes available at Warlock level 12. The Invocation adds necrotic damage to every weapon attack you land. The damage is equal to your Warlock’s Charisma bonus.
Baldur’s Gate 3: 15 Best Items For Warlocks
Seal your pact and find your gear: power awaits.
This Invocation is made for Warlocks with the Pact of the Blade. Mixed with a pact-bound weapon, you’ll be getting your Charisma bonus added to damage twice. The only drawbacks are that necrotic resistance is somewhat common in your enemies, and you will be unable tomulticlass your Warlocksince you need to reach Warlock level 12 to select it.
7Beguiling Influence
Win With Words
Acquiring skills in Baldur’s Gate can be a bit of a struggle. If your class doesn’t provide an extra skill, the most common way to get more is through feats. Beguiling Influence lets Warlocks gain proficiency in both Persuasion and Deception. you may, and should get this at level two, so long as you’re not already proficient.
Warlocks should plan to take this and choose alternate skills at level one to branch out their versatility. Persuasion and Deception are very commonly used in most social interactions. With naturally high Charisma, Warlocks can be the face of any adventuring party.
6Devil’s Sight
See Through All Darkness
Darkvision prevents your character from flailing around in dark places where they’d be practically blind without it. Many races in Baldur’s Gate 3 start off with it, but some don’t. Devil’s Sight is great for both.
The Invocation grants your Warlock superior darkvision, doubling the usual distance where they can see. It also pierces magical darkness, letting you place down a dark cloud and fight while all others are blind. It will serve you well, but if you have darkvision already, it can be hard to justify.
