Axiom Vergeplayers may have experienced a dramatic glitch that was causing the game to crash when entering an area. Turns out it was because developer Tom Happ, “excluded all files with ‘Steam’ in the name… oops.”
Players who downloaded and playedAxiom Vergeas part of the Epic Games Store giveaway found that when moving from Absu to Zi in the game map it would crash 100% of the time. One of those players, developerScott LaGrasta, discovered this crash as well and did some investigation into the game files. Going to ‘AxiomVerge\Content\Audio\SoundEffects’ in his PC he was able to find that copying and renaming one of the files “Steam.xnb” would allow you to progress, however it came with the caveat that the sound would play every time a jet of steam goes off in-game as well. Scott has worked on many games including theBatmanandMarvel’s Guardians of the GalaxyTelltale series as well asBioShock 2andThe Bureau: XCOM Declassifiedwith 2K Games.
Tom Happ, developer ofAxiom Verge, was quick to put out an update just this afternoon that fixed the error as well as admitting that it stemmed from him not wanting to include Valve’s DLLs (I assume this is referencing Dynamic-Link Libraries). Update 1.46 is a simple download that fixes this error. Both Tom Happ and Sergey Galyonkin (creator of Steam Spy and current employee at Epic Games) apologized for the error and not getting far enough in the uploaded version of the game to encounter the crashes before they appeared for the public.
InAxiom Vergeplayers take control of a character named Trace, who utilize several weapons and power-ups to navigate a massive world that plays on the appearance of glitches and errors in olderMetroid-like titles.
