The level has one very clear obstacle for Astro to consider: the floor is lava. A lot of the enemies in this level also use fire-based attacks, but our little bot will be getting some armor that protects him and also references one of the more iconic bosses from FromSoftware’s early title.
How to Reach Captain Shortfuse?
The level, while not an overt reference, has elements that will remind many players ofDemon’s Souls.Astro Bothas many more references hidden throughout the level that the more hardcore fans of the first Souls game will appreciate.
When Astro first lands in the world, he will have to clear out some enemies before using a waterspout to create a walkable platform across the lava. Be quick, as this won’t last long!
When you make it to the other side, you’ll find the equipment that will help you clear this level.Just like you get the Leviathan Axe from Kratosin Bot of War, you’ll get the Armored Ball Suit that allows you to tuck into a ball and negate most damage.

This armor is going to be your primary method of navigating the level. In various areas, you’ll come across blue volcanoes, which you will need to jump into after tucking into a ball midair. These will then erupt and propel you to the next area in the level.
By tucking into a ball, you’re able to also avoid any fire damage from other enemies, and the smaller volcanoes will need to be dealt with by jumping into them and blocking their spouts. A similar approach is required to deal with the enemies wielding the vacuums. Use every blue volcano you see to get to the new areas and you’ll finally land right at the boss arena.
How to Beat Captain Shortfuse in Astro Bot?
Once you reach the arena, Captain Shortfuse will erupt out of the lava from under the abandoned ship.He’s not the only pirate boss in the game, as Captain Pincheralso enters similarly. However, unlike Pincher, you won’t be able to climb Shortfuse and will need to make use of your Armored Ball Suit to land your attacks.
As the battle commences, metal platforms will appear on either side of the central platform, allowing Astro to jump over to the platforms on the left and right to reach the blue volcanoes. Shortfuse will use his cannon hands as flamethrowers and sweep across all the platforms, so you will need to tuck into a ball to avoid taking damage.

After the attack has passed, make your way onto the platform, and get into the blue volcano. It will shoot you out to land an attack on the Captain’s head. You’ll be returned to the same platform, so now you need to make your way in the opposite direction to reach the second volcano. There will be some regular enemies to deal with on the other platforms as well.
Land the second hit, and you will need to make your way back to the central platform where a smaller volcano enemy is waiting for you. Use your ball form to avoid his and Shortfuse’s attack, take out the small volcano, and then jump into the top of the blue volcano that appears after.
