Ubisoft first announcedAssassin’s Creed Shadowsin late 2022 under the titleAssassins’ Creed Red. While we didn’t know much about the game, rumors swirled around for quite some time about its overall narrative and setting. Finally, after years of waiting,Assassin’s Creed Shadowswas recently revealed with a cinematic trailer and confirmed release.

Although some in the community aren’t particularly happy with Ubisoft’s decision to bring a Black protagonist in a game set in Japan, the trailer has been well-received. Players are excited to see what the developers bring to the table with the next iteration of the popular franchise. While the official cinematic trailer gave us a look at the game’s setting and character, it also confirmed one feature that was last seen in Insomniac Games’Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows Will Allow You To Switch Between Characters
One of the most impressive features that Insomniac Games implemented intoMarvel’s Spider-Man 2was the ability to seamlessly switch between the game’s dual protagonists, Peter Parker and Miles Morales.
While you’re exploring the classic blocks of New York City and the incredibly detailed neighborhoods, fighting crime, and earning trophies, you can play as either superhero with their unique powers and skills. It was quite surprising to see that such an incredible feature didn’t see a return in other games, but it seems like Ubisoft has been taking notes.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Sounds Like 4 Games in One with Incredible Season-based Stealth Requiring You to Rethink Your Every Move
Ubisoft has officially unveiledAssassin’s Creed Shadows, with a world premiere trailer revealing the long-awaited, beautiful setting that will be the first in the franchise: feudal Japan. Just like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the upcoming Ubisoft game will also feature a dual protagonist system, with Yasuke and Naoe.
Ubisoft’s decision to opt for a dual protagonist system in Shadows is to fulfill“two iconic player fantasies,” allowing players to play as a Samurai and Shinobi. The game’s late-Sengoku setting, which is known for its political turmoil, warfare, and social reformation, should serve as an authentic backdrop for the game’s dual protagonists. Although players will be able to switch between the characters, both of them will bring vastly different gameplay experiences but an overlapping perspective on one of the most crucial moments in Japanese history.

Why Did Ubisoft Opt For A Dual-Protagonist Feature?
It’s been quite a while since we’ve seen dual protagonists in anAssassin’s Creedgame, with the feature last seen inAssassin’s Creed Syndicate. Naturally, this has left many players wondering how the feature will work in Shadows. In an interview with Xbox Wire, Shadows’ game director, Charles Benoit, revealed that they have introduced dual protagonists to help players understand what brings both characters together on a dangerous adventure.

For Ubisoft, the dual-protagonist system made complete sense, considering Japan’s feudal setting and what the developers wanted to deliver in terms of gameplay. They wanted to bring a Shinobi fantasy since it’s the right choice for an Assassin’s Creed game.
However, Samurais are also an iconic figure in Japanese history, which they didn’t want to skip over. Only having one character wouldn’t have allowed Ubisoft to fulfill Shinobi and Smaurai’s fantasies, as they both come from different places in terms of social classes and their role in Japanese society.
