Helldivers 2needs no introduction—everyone knows of this 3rd person shooter where you battle intergalactic forces in the ultimate war for managed democracy and the illusion of freedom.

So why haven’t the Terminids in Helldivers 2 given into democracy?

While the community has had a myriad of doubts that they’ve been raising toward developers over the past few days (like theinconvenient change in enemy behavior), there’s a particular question stumping everyone.

Helldivers 2 Player Questions the Terminids

Most people know of it by now, but in case you’re out of the loop,Helldivers 2is a game where you and a bunch of other players spread ‘managed democracy’ throughout the galaxy through a brutal arms war. The joke is that the body that governs over humans is totalitarian, where the citizens have no real say in what goes.

Helldivers 2 Has a Unique, Almost Gen Z Way of Adding New Stratagems: “We play the game and get bored… So we add another one”

AsHelldivers, you must push back and exterminate the anti-democratic forces, i.e., the other factions, to spread this so-called democracy across the galaxy.

While the lore is pretty upfront and simple, there’s one question that’s been bugging a certain player on Reddit.

Is there a lore reason for why Bugs hate democracy? Are they stupid?byu/Soviet_Dank_duckinHelldivers

A funny take on the “Are they stupid?” meme, Soviet_Dank_duck asks the community why theTerminids, or the bugs, refuse to give into theHelldivers‘version of democracy; and everyone’s answers definitely won’t disappoint:

Mechs will only help a little in the fight against the upcoming faction

I mean, they are wearing their skeletons backwards, of course they are stupid, do you know anyone smart that does that?

Many opted to attack the bugs’ appearance for their stubborn resistance:

It is kind simple really. It is all in their biology. As you can guess, like I have right now, the bugs have very small heads compare to their enormous body. It just means their brain is just too small to comprehend glorious concept such as freedom and liberty. We are truly blessed by lady liberty to be as smart as we are!

The consensus seemed to be that the bugs were simply not capable of thinking to that extent:

They don’t hate democracy per se. They just naturally act against it, as an all consuming plague they are. Hating would require them to think. And frankly, I find the idea of a bug that thinks offensive!

Fun fact, the Terminids have E-710 within them, whichHelldiversneed to fuel FTL technology. While the game pushed players to exterminate this race of anti-democratic heathens, it’s hinted that Super Earth’s government intentionally farms them for fuel. Exterminating them would put an end to that.

Another Faction Will Join the War Soon

If you thought the Automatons and the Terminids were a pain to fight inHelldivers 2, you’re not prepared for what’s to come.

Putting together clues from within the game and prominent leaks, players have found out that the Illuminate faction from the originalHelldiverswill be making their return soon. An advanced alien-like civilization, they use shields, teleportation, and mind-control to sway the tide of battle.

Will you be joining the forces of democracy inHelldivers 2soon? Let us know in the comments!
