It’s been three months since the release ofWarhammer 40k: Space Marine 2, and the title is still strong within the gaming community. It’s one of the biggest hits of the year, and despite not getting the respect it deserved at The Game Awards 2024, gamers can’t get enough of it.

One of the biggest appeals ofSpace Marine 2is undoubtedly its plotline, which picks up right after the first game. While it’s an incredible tale, many players discovered a certain plot hole and wondered if developer Saber Interactive had fumbled a big time. However, this widely regarded plot hole isn’t actually a mistake.

Space Marine 2‘s biggest plot hole debunked

Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2takes placetwo hundred years after the first title in the series. Gamers take control of Demetrian Titus, who, at the start, has provided his services to Deathwatch for nearly a century.

In the game, we see Titus and his squad fighting against hordes of enemies and being sent for various missions across the galaxy. However, many in the community have alwayswondered why Titus and his squad were sent to enemy planets when the Imperium could use its advanced technology and completely blow them from orbit. It’s an interesting question, considering that it would’ve saved Titus all the trouble he had to go through.

However, there’s an explanation behind this. In 40k’s Grey Knights novel, the prologue mentions“eyes on the ground” when facing off against Daemons, giving importance to precision and guaranteeing the elimination of an enemy. Unlike an orbital cannon, which might risk massive damage and uncertainty, a one-on-one confrontation would always ensure an enemy’s death.

That’s not all; there’s another layer on top of this. Eliminating a Daemon in close-quarter combat can lead to a longer banishment to the Wrap, the chaotic realm. By engaging his enemies directly, Titus can assure a guaranteed kill and remove any possibility of creatures returning to wreak havoc in the future.

LatestSpace Marine 2update changes everything

Space Marine 2recently gave us the 5.0 Patch, which introduced tons of new things and a feature that would make players keep coming back to Operations mode.

In order to prevent gamers from skipping over certain sections and encounters within an Operation, the title will now give players an Extermination Bonus.According to Saber, players can now earn various Extermination Ranks depending on how many enemies they managed to eliminate. As you climb higher ranks, you’ll be rewarded with more XP.

Let’s just say if you’re looking to achieve Rank A, you will need to eliminate more than 85% of the spawned enemies. The special reward for this rank is +120% XP pre-patch value. Gamers skip certain sections during Operations mode to avoid the troublesome grinding and enjoy the fun parts.

It’s a reasonable move, but with the new Extermination Bonus, the majority of the players will now feel like the“boring”sections are worth digging into. It’s clear that Saber will evolveSpace Marine 2to fit gamers’ needs and demands.
