It has long been confirmed thatAquaman 2will be the final movie for DCEU. Considering how DCEU has performed over the last decade, not many have high expectations from the movie, but it would be great to finish with a bang.

Unfortunately, the woes will continue for the DCEU ahead of James Gunn’s soft reboot of the franchise. Despite not facing much competition at the box office and releasing around Christmas, the film is all set to perform poorly at a generational level for the studio.

Aquaman 2 is All Set to Perform Worse ThanThe Marvelsin Its Opening Weekend

There are many factors that contribute to a film’s success at the box office, but the story remains the most important one regardless of the genre. As it turns out,Aquaman 2has seemingly failed to deliver a great story despite the presence of the ever-so-talented James Wan sitting in the director’s seat.

According to a report byThe Hollywood Reporter,Aquaman and the Lost Kingdomis all set to collect even less than MCU’sThe Marvel, despite releasing on a four-day weekend, thanks to the Christmas holiday.

If tracking is correct, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom may only swim to $37 million to $43 million in its domestic box office debut over the four-day Christmas weekend.

In comparison,The Marvelsopened to a $46.1 million weekend at the box office, and it was considered a huge failure for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Keeping that in mind, the final film of the DCEU won’t be going out with a bang, if anything, it’s on track to be one of the worst-performing films for the studio. After all, it had a humongous $205 million budget.

The 2023 movie simply pales in comparison to the inaugural film for Jason Momoa’s King of the Seven Seas, which opened to a respectable $67 million in 2018.

DoesAquaman 2Have Any Chance to OvertakeAquaman’sBox Office Collection?

The 2018Aquamanfilm had a similar budget as the sequel, but there was a huge difference in its success at the box office.Aquamanended up making more than $1.1 billion at the worldwide box office.

A key difference between the two films is their rating on Rotten Tomatoes. While the 2018 film has a 66% rating on the website, the sequel has debuted with a terrible 36% rating.

Keeping that in mind, it’s no surprise thatAquaman 2is destined to be a huge failure at the box office. It won’t be a surprise if the film fails to earn back its budget, let alone reach billionaire status as the previous movie.
