The latest season ofApex Legends, Revelry, is set to launch quite soon (February 14), and to build up further anticipation, the development team over at Respawn Entertainment hasrevealedthe game’s new class system ahead of time. It has detailed the now five classes that the playable Legends will fall into, the archetypes that these classes represent, which Legends will be in which class, and each class' unique perk.
The purpose of this change was for the classes to better represent the core playstyles in the game, splitting the Legends into groups that have “similar patterns of engagement on the battlefield.” They are now Assault, Skirmisher, Recon, Controller, and Support, and their respective Legends can be seen in the image below. Legends will now have an additional Class ability/abilities, which will better allow them to fill their expected role.

Assault Legends are described as offensive powerhouses. They are meant to be well-armed, as their abilities force their opponents into tough situations where the Legend can do what they do best, Assault. Assault Legends have two perks, one of them gives them access to a secret compartment of Weapon Supply Bins. These compartments contain four “smart loot” attachments, a reserved optics slot, and lower chances for magazines, among other probability differences. Their other perk allows them to carry more ammo per ammo stack.
Skirmishers are movement specialists. They are good at weaving in and out of sticky situations and giving their team rotation opportunities. Their perk allows them to spot incoming care packages. By looking at them at a distance, Skirmishers can see what’s inside the care package, as well as notice when the items have been taken by another squad (the icon turns grey).
The Recon class is rather self-explanatory. They’re the best at scouting for enemy info, so squads can better strategize their next move. Recon Legends are permitted the use of Modified Survey Beacons. These will show all enemy positions on your squad’s mini-map for the next thirty seconds, however, enemies tracked will be alerted to the beacon’s use and will therefore have an idea of your location as well.
Controller Legends are based around contraptions. They place items on the field that allow their team to better hold their position, or they place traps that hinder the opponent’s maneuverability. They will be the only ones allowed to use Ring Consoles, which will be placed around the map, and these will provide them the location of the next ring.
Finally, Support Legends are there to amplify and assist the rest of their team by either protecting them, helping them recover, or resupplying them. These Legends will now be able to craft Ally Banners in Crafting Stations, regardless of whether the banner has expired. They will also have access to a secret compartment in Blue Bins, which will have increased chances for large health kits, an increased percentage of Heat Shields when outside the ring, and an increased percentage to drop a Mobile Respawn Beacon when carrying a teammate banner.
