Netmarble finally released the first trailer forGame of Thrones: Kingsroad, during the G-Star 2024 gaming convention in Busan, Korea. Set to bring the world of Westeros to mobile screens, the mobile-only MMORPG was announced back in 2022. But is it anything more than just a hyped-up game for a big franchise?

The trailer shows stunning visuals for a mobile game and iconic elements from the hit series. But many wonder if this mobile game can live up to the grandeur of the franchise or risk being another disappointing addition to its name. It definitely looks crazy for a mobile game.

Mobile game FYI
looks bad and generic unfortunately
But with this, fans are about whetherKingsroadwill fall into the traps of shallow gameplay or excessive microtransactions. These are issues that have plagued the studio’s games in the past but are also a problem for mobile games in general.

Getting a Two Towers game vibe. Looks promising 🍻🍻🍻
Season 4 eh? Give me control of Oberyn and we’re finishing the job this time.

One bright spot for players is the announcement that the game supports “full manual controls.” The developers aim to appeal to hardcore gamers with precise gameplay mechanics. This will setKingsroadapart from many automated mobile RPGs.
Good or Not, It Will Definitely be Interesting
Netmarble plans to release the game in the West first because of the differences in gaming behavior. According to Moon Jun-ki, the project’s director, Asian gamers tend to finish content too quickly, which risks spoiling the experience globally.
It looks cool, but what’s the point? There was SO much potential and they chose a dumb mobile phone game. Why not release on PC, PS5, Xbox, etc. Would be absolutely amazing to play an open world GoT game where we get to make our own character, etc. Not this… it’s just…pic.twitter.com/hgQo2mE6bt

This strategy will allow developers to make adjustments based on Western feedback before the game debuts in Asia. It will also be a way totest the watersif the devs are wary of poor reception.
“It can’t be a feature film”: Failed $372M Movie Franchise Convinced George RR Martin the Game of Thrones Movie Will be a Disaster
The legacy ofGame of Thronesand its many adaptations also loom overKingsroad. The poorly received final season of the HBO series left a big scar on not just the show but also on fans.
Ever since then, any new projects within the franchise have been met with caution. The franchise doesn’t have a lot of titles in the gaming department and this could definitely be a decent one.
