The ever-impressive PAX West wasn’t the only major gaming event to take place on American soil this past weekend as New Jersey saw some of the bestTekken 7players in the world gather to prove their worth at Summer Jam XII,the last major event before the game sees the return of classic characters Lei WuLong and Anna Williams.
Summer Jam XII Featured a wealth of in-house tournaments including popular titles within the competitive fighting game circuit such asStreet Fighter V: Arcade Edition,Super Smash Bros. 4, andInjustice 2. There was even aWindjammerstournament, even though it’s technically not a part of the fighting genre it still plays on a lot of the same fundamentals. With just shy of 200 entrants forTekken 7, the latest installment in the long-running 3D fighting series proved to be the most popular game on the bill.
With such a vast number of players, the competition was fierce. Anakin and Jimmy J Tran both entered the top 8 in the winners’ brackets subsequently forcing JoeyFury and Jeondding into the losers’ bracket before facing off against one another. Anakin then continued his winning streak by defeating Jimmy J Tran.
After being knocked into losers Jimmy J Tran defeated Jeondding’s Eddy Gordo 3-0 eliminating him from the competition and earning himself a rematch against Anakin in the grand finals.
Grand finals started off well for Jimmy J Tran’s Bryan Fury. Through a combination of excellent reads, an aggressive play-style, and a solid corner game he was able to secure a 3-2 victory to reset the brackets and even the score. However, Akankin’s Jack-7 was a force to be reckoned with. Between the player’s fantastic spacing and Jack-7’s heavy damage output Anakin was able to stand his ground through the second grueling set to walk away with a 3-2 victory and earn the title of Summer Jam XII’sTekken 7champion.
