Following in the footsteps of other major game properties,aMass Effectadaptation is coming soon, as anAmazonTV show.
Some big names are known to be involved in this project, including Micheal Gamble, the current development lead on thenext big Mass Effect game. Gamble is taking the roll of producer, as is Avi Arad, who worked on some of the early Marvel adaptations.

But a much more significant role, the executive producer, is Daniel Casey, writer of Fast 9: The Fast Saga, among several other projects.
At this stage, very little is known about the project other than that it is set within the Mass Effect canon. This has left fans inan awkward spot.

On one hand, Mass Effect is a huge, beloved universe, full of possibilities ripe for a show like this.
But on the other hand - with so little known, people have had to speculate on the skill behind these names. A quick browse of forum comments shows each user’s concern.

Mass Effect May Be Abandoning Its Open-World Elements
But wasn’t it better without them?
Ari Arad’s recent Borderlands movie - something that famouslydid not go over wellwith fans of the franchise. Daniel Casey’s credits on Fast 9 haven’t exactly generated hype, either.

Michael Gamble’s influence looks to be the most positively received of the three, but he has fewer projects to judge than the other two.
Mass Effect Could Succeed Where the Halo TV Show Failed
The nature of Mass Effect, as a highly expansive universe, has some people cautiously optimistic for a project like this. There’s no shortage of side material to base a show off of.
That trait is also shared by the Halo TV show - a project that, despite its canon’s depth, felt the need to rewrite the story of Master Chief rather than adapt any expanded universe material.

Hard to get a Master Chief involved if the books are too niche for adaptation, or so the corporate higher-ups would argue. So, they felt the need to make a new Chief. Itdidn’t go well.
Who Is Master Chief In Halo Tv Series
Second episode of Halo will be released next week.
But with Mass Effect, the broader material is part of what makes the games so special. And given its much larger cast of beloved characters with iconic silhouettes, it may be easier for this show to justify the absence of Commander Shepherd.
Adapting Shepherd for the silver screen, or a lack thereof, is something a lot of fans are hoping for. There’s just too many different Shepherds floating around between playthroughs.
But Garrus? Wrex? Anyone with history independent of Shepherd and the Normandy? Those can all serve as excellent story fuel.
