Gege Akutami, the author ofJujutsu Kaisen, had always wanted to make a dark tale. In fact, Jujutsu Kisen itselfwas supposed to be much more darkthan the one that is currently being published. The original idea was to create strong sorcerers who would defeat theYuta and Rikaduo.
The concept is more like a horror story than anything else, and the author wanted a deeper dive into the horrifying results of evil curses. However, the idea was rejected right away by his editor as it was found to beunsuitable for the Shonen audience.
Now thatJujutsu Kaisenis reaching its end and Gege Akutami is already a well-known writer, they could definitely begin a horror story, and fans would line up to read it. The rise of anime like Junji Ito’s Uzumaki might also lead to a demand for more horror stories with darker themes. This might just be the perfect opportunity for Gege Akutami to create a horror manga to his liking.

Kohei Horikoshi has not yet announced another series, but he is definitely enjoying his vacation for now. Gege Akutami could take a page from Horikoshi’s book to create what they love. If they can spawn a story that is darker and more sadistic than Jujutsu Kaisen, it would be definitely worth a read. Till then, you should look forward to the last few remaining chapters ofJujutsu Kaisen, as it will end on June 02, 2025.
