TheStar Warsfranchise has been searching for a new protagonist to galvanize the galaxy far, far away. After Luke Skywalker in the original trilogy, fans have had mixed reactions to Anakin Skywalker and Rey Skywalker taking center stage in the prequel and sequel trilogy. However, that search might finally end if new reports are to be believed.

According to reports, Cal Kestis is set to debut in the live-action in an upcoming project. The character has been a fan-favorite among fans of the space opera franchise’s video games. Moreover, if the rumors are true, Kestis would make the perfect replacement for Luke Skywalker. Here is everything you need to know about the potential new protagonist of theStar Warssaga.
Cal Kestis Reportedly Set to Make His Live-Action Debut in an UpcomingStar WarsProject
TheStar Warsfranchise desperately needs a new protagonist followingLuke Skywalker‘s absence from most of the post-sequel trilogy projects. Moreover, with the upcoming slate of films and shows moving the franchise away from the Skywalker saga, the need for a new leading character is imminent.
According to scooper@DanielRPK, Cal Kestis willreportedlymake his live-action debut in an upcoming project. The character first debuted in the 2019 video gameStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, played by actorCameron Monaghan. Kestis also appeared in the 2023 sequel,Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, and a novel bridging the gap between the two entries.

Although details regarding the character’s rumored live-action appearance are scarce, Kestis will reportedly feature in a yet-to-be-revealed project or a future season of an existing series likeAhsoka. However, if the character debuts sometime in the future, he has the potential to become the protagonist and central figure in the space opera saga.
Cal Kestis Could Finally Become theStar WarsProtganist the Franchise Deserves
In theFallen Order, Cal Kestis works as a scrapper on the planet Bracca. The game’s flashback sequences shed light on his backstory. Kestis was trained by Jedi Master Jaro Tapal during the Clone Wars. The latter sacrificed himself to save Kestisduring Order 66, and the resulting guilt led to the Padawan severing his connection to the Force.
Kestis’ storylines in both the original game and sequel, especially his backstory, serve as a solid foundation for the character, who slowly rediscovers his connection with the Force and finds himself in conflict with the Empire. He even faces Darth Vader on Mustafar’s moon. Furthermore, the games also hint at Kestis’ connection to a group of Force-sensitive children.

Kestis’ story from the games could easily carry over into the live-action media, especially since the franchise is expanding beyond the Skywalker saga. As a result, Kestis’ story couldtake place in the post-Return of the Jeditimeline, likeThe Mandalorianand its spin-off shows, which further proves the merits of introducing him in live-action.

Ultimately, Kestis is a complex character with an ever-evolving connection to the Force, which makes him an interesting protagonist. Following Luke being sidelined and Lucasfilm dropping the ball with Rey Skywalker, the stage is perfectly set for Kestis to become the franchise’s long-term protagonist, and his existing fanbase only makes a stronger case for the same.
