Toph is one of the most popular characters in the series; she is not only a valuable member of Team Avatar, but she also teaches him her unique style of earth bending that she learned from the badger moles to make up for her blindness. Toph plays a big role in the series, but she is not always liked by her teammates.

A few months ago, during a subreddit discussion,Avatarfans talked about how Toph was treated when she first joined the group of the Last Airbender. Fans pointed out that she was yelled at by Aang and Katara, which led to her leaving the group briefly.

Team Avatar’s Way of Treating Toph Was Horrible in the Beginning

Toph Beifong will likely be the most important character in the upcoming season ofAvatar: The Last Airbender’slive-action adaptation. Toph has been a victim of condescending treatment since birth because of her blindness. Thisled to her becoming sarcastic, stubborn, and difficult. However, it was understandable, as she had to go through a lot.

Initially, she was treated with kindness and respect, but circumstances led to Aang and Katara yelling at Toph in the first episode after she joined Team Avatar. Not only that, she was even yelled at by Aang when she couldn’t see in the desert. Sokka was the only one who somehow understood what she was going through and treated her equally.

Although Toph’s rude behavior towards others has a reason behind it, Aang and Katara’s mistreatment of Toph was unjustified. They should have been more considerate towards her, especially in the beginning, as she left her parents and her hometown and was truly miserable. She even confessed that she was missing her parents and feeling guilty for hurting them.
