A trailer for Spider-Man: The Great Web, a cancelled co-operative Spider-Man game from Insomniac, leaked online yesterday.
Amid the leak,Spider-Manfans have created apetitioncalling for the game to be revived (thanks,TheGamer). The trailer, though incomplete, depicts scenes of multiple Spider-People fighting crime around New York and alternate universes, presumably. It’s narrated by Yuri Lowenthal, voice of Peter Parker in Insomniac’s Spider-Man games.

The concept of creating your own Spider-Person and swinging around with pals is, unsurprisingly, a very popular concept among fans of Insomniac’s Spider-Man games. With the premise of multiple universes a lá Sony’s Spiderverse series of movies, you’d have appropriate scope for a diversity of content.
Live Service Woes
The Great Web appears to have been one of Sony’s ill-fated live-service projects, another victim of the publisher’s pivot, much like thehigh-profile cancellation of The Last Of Us Online. The leaked trailer originates from last year’s ransomware attack on Insomniac, an event the studio called “extremely distressing.”
The petition has a simple premise, “…to show Insomniac and Sony the love and want we have for this possible groundbreaking multiplayer experience.” It currently has 1,530 signatures.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Players Can’t Get Enough Of The New Raimi Suit
Players are calling the updated suit “gorgeous.”
The revival of a cancelled game is of course, unlikely, especially considering the financial implications of running a live-service game that ultimately caused The Last Of Us Online to be cancelled. Naughty Dog felt it would have to become a “solely live service games studio” to support a live-service The Last Of Us. With Insomniac’s rich history as a single-player developer, it may have faced the same struggles.

Insomniac hasn’t released a statement regarding the recent leak, and likely won’t, as it relates to a matter the studio has already spoken on.
Still, Spider-Man fans liked what they saw from The Great Web trailer and aren’t shy in expressing that. “Who in their right mind would cancel a guaranteed success like this?” reads one comment. Quite dramatically, another signee wrote, “This game is everything I’ve wanted since I was a child.”
In a climate that’s proved inhospitable to many live-service games, the revival of The Great Web seems exceedingly unlikely, despite the wishes of fans.
