In a glorious tribute to Shakira, her hometown honored the singer with a 21-foot pure bronze statue. The singer/songwriter shared the picture of the statue with a few photographs of her family.

Certainly, the singer was overjoyed by the glorious honor. Born and raised in Barranquilla, Shakira went on to be a global star following a few songs includingWaka Waka (This Time for Africa)— the official song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, that went on to become massive hits.

Shakira’s Hometown Immortalized The Singer

Shakira, one of the most famous global artists, was acknowledged by her hometown, where the singer was born and raised. The Colombian city of Barranquilla unveiled a huge 21-foot bronze statue of the singer on Tuesday. Taking to herInstagram, the Colombian star shared a series of photographs of the statue with her parents.

The Queen of Latin music was also over the moon by the beautiful words scribed on the dedication slate,“a lot for my little heart,”she added. Sculptor Yino Márques designed the statue with the help of students and graduates of the District School of Arts. In the photographs, Shakira’s parents were seen attending the ceremony with Barranquilla’s Mayor, Jaime Pumarejo.

The Inate Symbolism of Shakira’s Statue

The humongous statue represents a pose from Shakira’s widely famousHips Don’t Liemusic video released in 2005 from the albumOral Fixation Vol. 2. In the statue, Shakira appears as in her dancing in the song swiveling her hips, dancing with her astounding body movement. In Spanish, the dedication slate stated the reflection of her prowess.

“A heart that composes, hips that don’t lie, an unmatched talent, a voice that moves masses and bare feet that march for the good of childhood and humanity,”the dedication reads (via Shakira’s Instagram).

Also, Shakira appeared barefoot, which refers to her foundation, the Fundación Pies Descalzos— dedicated to uplifting childhood education. Further, the aluminum end“of her skirt symbolizes the waves of the sea and the river,”as per the translation of the dedication.

The singer was also honored in 2006 with a 16-foot-tall and six-ton statue designed by sculptor Dieter Patt. The 46-year-old has been the pioneer of Latin Pop and crowned with several accolades to her name, including 3 Grammy Awards and 14 Latin Grammy Awards.
