So far, 2024 hasn’t comparatively been a fantastic year for gaming in general, with very few truly notable releases. There were no standout titles in the first few months of the year, and the most intriguing releases came in the second half. Fortunately, indie games have come to dominate what’s left of the year with several exciting surprises.

Titles likeEuropaorThe Plucky Squirehave made their mark, offering completely original gameplay experiences that transport players to other worlds. These nine indie games are most anticipated for the rest of the year.
9 – Die by the Blade
Grindstone developed this game, offering a unique scenario where players must kill their opponent with a single blow. The idea is to create a duel-style setting where players can choose their preferred weapon to try to land the decisive strike.
The game allows only one hit, so the first player to land a blow wins the match. Everything depends on the player’s speed and strategy to avoid being hit first.

Two players facing each other can playDie by the Bladeboth locally and online. Players will have almost unlimited customization options for both weapons and their chosen warriors’ outfits. The game mechanics seem simple, but the goal is to achieve the perfect parry before delivering the fatal blow to win the duel.
8 – Shogun Showdown
This title offers turn-based combat in the best real-time strategy style, with the added element of deck-building mechanics. Roboatino is developingShogun Showdown, one of themost original indie gamesof the year.
The studio has already created the game’s prologue which is also available for download on Steam. The game rewards the perfect combination of cards and moves, ensuring that nothing is wasted in the heat of battle while progressing on the map.

It will feature several roguelike mechanics, meaning players will start over from the beginning each time their character dies. Players can choose to try again, aiming to build a better card combination for a stronger attack before each battle.
Players will advance through different scenarios, facing enemies repeatedly if necessary. This title will be released on September 5th for Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, PS4, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch.

7 – I See Red
This game puts the player in the shoes of a betrayed cop seeking to clear his name and exact revenge. The Argentine studio Whiteboard Games is developingI See Red, which features a top-down camera that incorporates both sticks in combat. The game will have roguelite mechanics, with enemies ranging from aliens to robots and humans.

As the title suggests, the protagonist sees everything in red due to his vengeful state, and this color filter adds a bit more immersion to the gameplay experience.

The idea behind this title is that their relationship evolves to unlock new areas, thanks to the skills they will learn along the way. So far, it look like one of the most unique indie games of the year.
The game also depicts how the wolf grows and searches for its own identity through new mechanics that will be revealed in the game.Nevawill be released on October 15th for PC, Xbox Series S/X, PS5, and Nintendo Switch.
3 – Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind
This game is likely one of the most original takes on this long-standing franchise. Digital Eclipse, along with Hasbro, offer a unique look at thePower Rangers, with a classic beat ’em up that also features original artwork never seen before.
Additionally, the game allows the use of Megazords in certain levels, making it an ideal experience for any nostalgic fan of these costumed heroes.
An alternate version of Rita Repulsa’s future will bring new powers to the villains, and the Power Rangers must overcome all sorts of challenges to defeat this new threat.
The game will feature all the classic powers of the heroes, and the ability to use the famous Megazords will add a completely different mechanic to the experience. This title is scheduled to be released before the end of the year for Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, PS4, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
2 – Little Devil Inside
This title once impressed the entire indie gaming community with its completely original proposal filled with action, adventure, and, above all, an extraordinary and artistically original visual style.
Neostream Interactive is developing the game. It all started with a successful Kickstarter campaign, and now, many players are eagerly awaiting the final version of this game.
The protagonist is a natural explorer who must overcome various threats to continue discovering new, spectacular locations, beautifully designed by the studio.
