Sea of Thieveswas a massive hit for Xbox. The title frequently received updates and new content, ensuring it stayed relevant in the grand scheme. A closed beta was also announced after it was confirmed to be coming to PlayStation.

Sea of Thieves is out now on PC and Xbox.

However, as the name implies, not everyone can make it to the closed beta, and only a few can sail the high seas with the ship’s crew of their choice. But there are still other titles that should whet your appetite before the title’s full release on the PS5.

#7 Sea of Thieves (Xbox One / PC)

The most fitting entry on the list isSea of Thieves, which has been on Xbox One and PC for a long time– six years to be precise. Also, even if one has a work-oriented PC that isn’t incredibly dated, the title won’t be much of a hassle to run.

On the other hand, if one owns an Xbox One, the title is included in the Game Pass subscription service, too. Being incredibly entertaining when playing with friends, it takes a different approach than traditional multiplayer titles.

#6 Skull and Bones

One of the most anticipated titles, dubbed the first ‘quadruple-A‘ title by Ubisoft itself, was barraged with mixed reviews and heavily criticized by users. But it was also one of the few AAA pirate games from a major studio on all major platforms, so it deserves some credit.

The RPG mechanics in the title are worth appreciating, and the naval combat is fun. While it isn’t incredibly similar toSea of Thieves, it is still expansive enough for one to make waiting for the latter’s arrival on the PS5 easier.

#5 Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire

While the previous entry on the list was more about controlling a ship and engaging in naval combat, this entry is vastly different.Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfireis an isometric RPG emphasizing choices and decisions.

The game’s moral system is also complex and worth experiencing. The title also emphasizes its character arcs, and the NPCs will evolve based on the decisions you make during your playtime.

#4 Sid Meier’s Pirates!

This title is long forgotten, as it came out almost two decades ago. It is nothing less than a hidden gem that provides one of the most in-depth pirate simulation experiences ever. While the game shows its age in 2024, the title’s gameplay loop is surprisingly diverse and expansive.

Several minigames, especially the sword-fighting minigame, are as neat as they could have been in 2004. Moreover, the quality of its trade and economy-based mechanics is top-tier, making it a must-try.

The title isn’t that bad and has some good elements.

#3 LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean

A certain charm to LEGO titles makes them incredibly fun; when one couples them with thePirates of the Caribbeanmovie series, it offers double the fun. The title is fun for all ages and features iconic characters and an exhilarating movie soundtrack.

It has also won the BAFTA Games Award in the Family category. In the game, one can play through the first four swashbuckler movies in the series. The game also has a fantastic couch co-op experience, making it a unique entry in the list.

Also, the authentic Japanese voice acting makes it unmissable. Trying the game is an absolute no-brainer for gamers who are anime fans.

The isometric RPG lays a lot of emphasis on narrative and choices.

#1 Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag

This title made Ubisoft realize the potential of the swashbuckler setting and remains thego-to for fans disappointed by Ubisoft’s pirate RPG. The game follows the story of Edward Kenway, an eighteenth-century pirate.

It also has one of the best plots in the series when one excludes theEzio Collection. For some gamers, it is even the bestAssassin’s Creed. If one is waiting forSea of Thieveson PlayStation, this game should work well for them.
