Since its debut in 2011,Black Mirrorhas undoubtedly cemented itself as one of the best anthology series in the business, and rightfully so. From its unconventional narratives, which serve as an allegory to real-life issues, and its impeccable cast, the show’s return has now fans excited, especially after Cristin Milioti’s first look in the sequel to season 4’sUSS Callister.
Given how impeccable the show has been with its social commentary on the concerns surrounding the rapidly advancing technology, for now, fans can relive these five episodes to prepare themselves for the next chapter.
The National Anthem – 100%
Talk about starting with a bang. TheCharlie Brooker-led show didn’t waste any time to announce its brilliance.The National Anthem, the first episode in the series, maintains a perfect score on theTomatometer, which revolves around a prime minister, played by Rory Kinnear, a pig, and a princess.
Fifteen Million Merits – 100%
Similar to its predecessor, the second episode in the series,Fifteen Million Merits, starring Jessica Brown Findlay and Daniel Kaluuya, scored another perfect score in the Tomatometer, and it’s not hard to see why. The episode brilliantly uses its reality TV premise to touch on the exploitative nature of corporations.
Nosedive – 95%
With a score of 95% on the Tomatometer,Nosedivestars Bryce Dallas Howard at its forefront, which touches on the danger of one’s addiction to social validation, without losing its humorous bits. Even though it takes the premise to a whole new level, given how things are, it doesn’t feel too far from reality.
USS Callister – 95%
There’s a reason why fans are excited for the sequel episode toUSS Callister, which starred Jesse Plemons andCristin Milioti, as it remains one of the most commercially and critically acclaimedepisodes in the series. From its homage toStar Trekto its virtual reality setting, it’ll be interesting how they expand on it in season 7.
Demon 79 – 100%
In contrast to the more technologically-filled themes, season 6’sDemon 79succeeded in differing itself from other episodes, thanks to its retro horror setting, which starred Anjana Vasan, who accidentally summons a demon. Not only did fans and critics celebrate the change, but it’s only the third episode in the series to hold a perfect score on the Tomatometer.
