After struggling to replicate their big-screen success on television, the MCU finally resorted to the traditional TV formula, starting withDaredevil: Born Again. Although 2024 turned out to be a pretty quiet year for the cinematic giant, the MCU is set to fire on all cylinders in 2025, and to say that the anticipation surroundingBorn Againis high would be an understatement.

With the show set to premiere in March, Marvel has finally blessed us with a trailer, and Michael Gandolfini’s brief appearance in the trailer has sparked major speculation surrounding his potential casting in the role.
Michael Gandolfini’s role inDaredevil: Born Againremains a mystery
When Michael Gandolfini was originally added to the cast list forDaredevil: Born Again, many speculated that he might be playing Kingpin’s heir Richard Fisk, given his resemblance withVincent D’Onofrio.

Although in the cast list, his character’s name has been listed as Daniel Blade, given the MCU’s history with deceptive marketing over the years, this could very much be a repeat of 2018’sInfinity Wartrailer.
Apart from Richard Fisk, Gandolfini’s involvement could also hint towards the appearance of a young Wilson, which wouldn’t be too far-fetched, as the actor previously appeared as a young Tony Soprano inThe Many Saints of Newark. However, given the mystery surrounding his role, it’d be fitting for him to play Fisk’s secret son Byron Butch Fisk. Whatever the role will be, hopefully, Gandolfini will hit it out of the park with his MCU debut.

Michael Gandolfini recalled tearing up after the MCU casting
Prior to theshow’s overhaul,The Many Saints of Newarkstar expressed excitement over joining theDaredevil: Born Again.Although he reasonably couldn’t unveil much about his MCU gig, the actor revealed that his character resided in Staten Island, as he recalled tearing up after his Marvel contract (viaCollider).
I mean, it’s incredible. It’s so, so exciting and daunting and everyone is so nice and so talented. I remember getting my first text from the producer, I was driving, and it said, ‘Welcome to the MCU!’ You see that and it just, like, hits you, you know? I teared up, and it’s just like, ‘Oh my God!’ I’m very grateful and lucky.

With two more months to go, it’ll be interesting to see howBorn Againtackles the legacy of the Netflix show, and hopefully, Gandolfini’s involvement in the show will live up to fans’ hype.
